Sevaram,

In the same boat. Have had several no thank you's but no nibbles from anywhere.

At this point it doesn't mean anything. I had friends go recruiting two years ago and they applied to a bunch of places and never heard anything until late December. By then they had decided to stay where they were, and sort of kicked themselves. LOL

Keep the faith!

Noortje,

since you are not qualified yet, many schools will not even look at you. They want to KNOW the candidate they are hiring is certified (and many countries require this).

Also, by the time you have proof of this it can be too late to process all your paperwork to get you to the school in time.

That said, jobs do open up in the summer or at short notice in the new school year, so don't despair!

It is very common for schools to use this time to build their candidate banks. Even experienced teachers, unless they are in shortage areas or have outstanding, incredible CVs, are playing the waiting game. As well, it seems there are an awful lot of "tentative" and "possible" positions out there which may or may not open up.

Don't get to depressed just yet!

I just want to add that not all nations rush to follow the US in the race to the bottom/most cheapest denominator just because in the US cheaper must = better.

My sources in Canada have grave doubts about online training for teaching (notice, not course work for SOME courses), but if you are going to be teaching, it is bricks and mortar at some point for an extended period of time (a year) so you can be properly assessed in a university and school setting.

And since they either set, or influence those who set the rules, it ain't going to change anytime soon.

Hi Psyguy

Have to agree with IAMBOG. I am certified in 3 Canadian provinces and know people inside. Certification is a joint effort between the Provincial or Territorial Teacher's Association, the Provincial Ministry of Education/Territorial Department of Education, and the universities in that province (territories have no universities in them), but do have colleges with pre-education programs that lead to universities down south).

No university will offer an on-line certification program. (A) it removes people from the program in terms of F2F contact and assessment; (B) the teaching associations would scream blue murder - and they are MUCH more powerful than in the US; and (C) it won't meet the mandated certification requirements - and the teachers associations and certification bodies (TQS, COT, etc) will scream blue murder.

This is a non-issue. As I stated in my original post - nowhere in Canada and the easiest option (but not the cheapest) is the College of New Jersey program.

In my experience you won't get online certification in Canada. Fastest I have seen is a 1 year program from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.

Also be aware that Ontario requirements are very similar to the US in recertification, etc...very regimented...unlike western Canada.

However, you can look at The College of New Jersey global education programs - particularly Mallorca. two summers and one year (provided you have a school to do a practicum/internship at) means that you get certified through New Jersey on a 5 year basis.

Link to this summer's offerings (2013)

http://offsitegrad.pages.tcnj.edu/progr ... rca-spain/

You can go through the Teacher's Institute in Miami and London

http://www.theptc.org/teachers-training-center/

or the 1 year Lakehead program

http://www.mylakehead.ca/education-cons ... r-program/

Canada does not recognize online teaching certificates and would not likely transfer one over without significant coursework taken at a Canadian university prior to issuing one.

Hope this helps!

Better to send an email thanking them for the opportunity to explore positions at XXX school and stating that you are looking forward to discussing possible positions for next August.

Abqaiq is about an hour away from Dammam/Khobar. It is a smaller community. Aramco has their own compound there, a smallish school compared to Dhahran, but all the amenities. You might find it a little isolated if you like big towns, as there is nothing much to the town itself - a provincial Saudi town it is.

I usually send an expression of interest through Search followed by an email from my jobsearch account directly to the school with all my documents and cover letter.

If they have someone similar whose wife will come now, he won't get hired. Only if they can't find someone as part of a married couple will they bring a single. The school is starting construction of a new campus and doesn't want to take on any extra expenses it doesn't have to.

Is there a compelling reason for his wife to stay behind? It will ring a bell with the school if there isn't...

ISS and Technology

What this tells me is that ISS is losing clients to SEARCH (honestly, most of my friends on the circuit use Search, not ISS - they tend to avoid it like the plague), so in order to attract quality candidates AND turn a profit on that section of their business, they are (a) removing recruiting fair costs, so they are free for all ISS clients; and (b) giving a deal on signup time for cost, so that they have a larger data base of teachers to present to schools.

This is business - it isn't being done because the old paradigm is no longer working - it is being done because they are losing business to a competitor.

If you honestly think that recruiters from schools are going to look through hundreds of electronic portfolios or that that nifty "learning package" you have "created" (did you really, or was it the person in the classroom next to you?), then I have some land in Florida to sell you.

Not trying to put you down, but ISS is a business. Their decision is based on what affects their bottom line. Also, I have known enough admin that they like to get out and glad hand and actually meet in person the teachers they are going to hire.

Just my thoughts on it.

Single at AISR

Unless he is a specialist, they will try to hire married couples or local hire before hiring singles. He should realize this.
