Re: Preparing for China next Fall while abroad. Work/Visa docs. Job Hunt

As a math teacher with certification, you would have trouble in the past getting a teaching position at a good school in China. Right now, you are a very attractive candidate for a position.

My suggestion is to go on line decide where you want to live and look at the international schools in that area. I lived in the Shenzhen area and would recommend that to anyone, great weather(some would say it is too humid), great shopping, great housing and easy to HK. I have contacts in that area that say that things are not as strict there as they were in Beijing and Shanghai. They did have to go remote for a while this fall, but I believe the majority are back face to face.

Your documents-a good school will walk you through what is needed and what you need to do, you might be able to do it all in Vietnam.

I don't agree that things are not going to improve, they already have and that is proof in how schools are advertising for positions now. Last year, if you were out of China, they wouldn't look at you at this time and stated such. Now they are open to those outside of the country. I am also going to assume that you are single, that is a plus.

You can try Search Associates, but they are pretty strict about the 2 year experience to even sign up.

Re: Potential school closing advice

I will be more direct with you. Get your ducks in a row and start applying to jobs that are open for January. and make sure that you explain what is going on in your school...honesty is the best policy. This is obviously a school that has recently been reviewed on this site and considering what has been said, you will have no problem explaining the issues to a potential employee. Sadly, they continue to advertise for people with search firms and the firms continue to work with them...even though they don't even list the Head of School on the website anymore...did he leave?
If you want to stay in your current country, I am sure that other schools are looking for teachers and I would even just send in a resume...the other schools know what is going on with this school...if they don't then they aren't paying attention.

@PsyGuy
@Heliotrope

The energy you two waste on your pissing contests is amazing...I only wish I knew what schools the two of you worked at so I could make to avoid them. When you see yourselves in the mirror do you stop and kiss the mirror?

Re: Is there anything like SA/ISS/Schrole for the US?

Many search firms in the US, but most schools also list on the NAIS website...it is free to join and the listings are not only from schools not using firms, but schools doing their own searches.
NAIS website will also give you details of other search firms...but Carney is the main one for teachers...depending on your skill level, subject and history...you will either love them or hate them more than Search or Schrole.
My suggestion is to start with NAIS and go from there.

Re: Ghosted

The original post stated that the "Ghosting" happened after several interviews...nothing was stated about just sending in a CV and complaining about not getting a response. Some how the topic has now become a fight over schools not personally contacting someone who has sent in a resume. Ghosting happens everywhere, sadly those who are doing the hiring neglect to remember that a person is behind the resume that was sent in and that a interview whether face to face or on zoom requires a response about next stages.
