For sure with the fairs days away, you are feeling much like I feel. Don't despair or go desperate. Trust your education, training and experience, and there will be light at the end of the tunnel! Happy New Year!
Hee hee, just really asking. Haven't heard much of anything about Rwanda except horrible things. So I was jus wondering if anything good was going on there. I'm holding tight. Thank you. I hope you have a happy New Year as well just a few short hours to go!

To Vets do you still go to fairs or just Skype?

Hello all,

I'm curious. Once you get to 10 years plus do you still attempt fairs? Or, do you just apply directly to schools? I'm wondering if at some point you don't really have to jump through the hoops and expense of the fairs?

I've only been to a small one and I was new to it all...
I was quite excited, but I wonder if at some point you will just get offers through Skype without going to fairs?

Re: Has anyone ever had a very bad interview?
I had an interview recently where the principal got angry when I told her my current salary. Her response was that at her school it would be a lot less and why on Earth would any school pay me that much. She then asked me what other perks I have and I told her private health insurance and housing. She responded with a very loud scream, and continued a diatribe that no school in world offers such a package and that she did not like speaking to liars. She hung up on me. The interview, of course, finished.

It was a very discouraging interview, to say the least.
Just wow!

Escaleartist very funny.

I had an interview once where the lady was clearly not interested in me from the onset. She told me about school didn't ask me one question about myself and after 5 minutes said ...do you have any questions? I sure don't that was that and we never heard from each other again. I will never apply there again.
I scheduled a meeting with my HOS, sat down and talked for 45 minutes. He made the case for me staying at school, but was wise and understanding about my situation. He helped me get my recommendations, and even left a back door open that if it isn't working at the fair to come talk to him, as he would rather I stay. In the end I talked to a recruiter he had used in the past and decided to go to both search and ISS because I would have to miss school anyway. The hardest part about leaving my school is having a head who will actually try to see it from my perspective. So my advice is just go talk to them and be honest about your situation. Professionals will not take it personally!
Great advice! I think your school is being more than fair. Not all schools will be as kind though. I know my last school was not. Although my principal rocked. The school wasn't so great and many snuck around job hunting. Horror stories of fear of current school calling prospective school to speak of you poorly...
