I think this is different. Part of their agreement with you, and part of their commitment to you, is getting you into the country to be able to work.

Individual people - HR or whoever - can make mistakes or not do their job, but overall the school has to meet their end of the bargain and make sure that things get sorted out.

Re: Morals and Contracts

@cms989

Nathan61 kindly suggested you don't take offence.

I'd suggest you should take offence to my stance.

Which is to honour your word, the contracts you sign and to act with integrity. It's what I would expect of schools, what I expect of teachers and most importantly what I expect of myself.

You don't want to do the same? Knock yourself out.

Personally, I couldn't act in such a way. Will I judge you for it? Yes.

Re: Morals and Contracts

@psyguy

It's not ...'changing your position when the data changes, thats what smart people do. Its being open minded to evolving events and keeping your trajectory fluid.'

It's reneging on a commitment, it's signing contracts in bad faith.

Presumably you're okay with schools doing this, or potentially doing this, to you? Any other position would be hypocritical.

You can have your standards. I'll have mine.

Re: Morals and Contracts

@psyguy - I'm on the side of the angels mate.

There's right and wrong, and when people need to attempt logical gymnastics to explain away their lack of morals then you know they know what they are considering is wrong.

I'm not unsympathetic to individual circumstances, but people need to think their actions through. And think about how they would like to be treated.

Peace. x

Re: Morals and Contracts

It's really very simple.

If you sign the contract then you should honour it. You would expect the same from the other . - in this case the school.

You can dress it up however you like and play the family card etc. but if you don't intend to honour the contract don't sign it. If you have doubts, don't sign.

Acting with moral integrity is very straightforward. You either do or you don't.

If you're not sure about a school/position/location then go with your gut and don't sign.

Re: IB Experience at Lower Pay Worthy Investment?

I'd argue that the course elements of the DP are easy to implement as they are a given syllabus.

CAS done well is great, but it's hard to do well.

MYP is harder because it's mostly framework and can be hard for parents to understand.

PYP is hard because it's all framework, but this also helps with implementation as there is a lot of latitude for what you do.

My data? My experience.

Re: Teaching in Switzerland / Benelux

Short answer - yes, yes and yes.

Just depends what roles come up...

The fact you have French citizenship will help with getting a visa as well.

Good luck!

Re: When to announce a departure

Personally I would let my school know at the start of the school year if I knew I'd be seriously looking to move on. I would certainly stick to any intention deadlines.

I would expect them to do the same and only want to work in schools that do that.

Always remember that PsyGuy is a lunatic and any insights they may have should be read with this in mind.

Or just keep your word, and if you can't do that then be honest.

I realise there's an oxymoron in there, but circumstance etc. etc....

Re: Years of IB Experience for Top Tier Schools

For MYP I would suggest investigating the underlying pedagogy and thinking about how your experience and approach to teaching and learning aligns with it.

Also, there is an emphasis on collaboration and curriculum creation so showing your experience in those areas would be good.

Good luck!

Re: Years of IB Experience for Top Tier Schools

By IB experience, do you mean teaching the Diploma Programme? Or experience in other IB programmes - e.g. PYP and MYP?

Experience in with the PYP or other inquiry based programmes is certainly desirable if looking to teach in the PYP.

I would say the same, but to a lesser extent, for MYP.

Re: New to The Game...

I would about those 2s and ask what it is you're looking for.

I'm 5-10-2-5 (so far), and more than happy to talk about the 2 and what it means for me.
