It’s so contrived.

Every project is huge and its gotta change the world!

The criteria, kids are always moving up. That’s nuts my kids go up and down as all students do. They have good days and bad days, just like you and me.

It’s always changing; teaching should be fun and exciting, not boring meetings! In every faculty meeting here that’s ALL we talk about. MYP grading.

Hey I like this dialogue better than reading about that school in Kuwait!!

MYP/sucks!

How do teachers feels about MYP? I am so sick of all the dumb projects, lack of report cards, and silly criterian. I think the vast majority of my students and their parents would be much happier with A- F report cards.
Once again, its administrators over thinking this thing we call teaching!

My next school WILL NOT be an MYP school!!

Thanks for reading my rant, I feel better already!!

having fun

I am a current teacher here in Lima. I think the main reason why there are so many vacancies is that we have to give notice early and that our head does a good job of getting quality canidates before the fairs. Most of the people I know leaving have been here for 4+ years. That said so far Lima has been a great school for us!

1) Lima sure seems safe, there is a huge disparity between wealthy and poor though.. The food here is the best!!

2) The school does have a lot of Spanish speakers. Are they all lazy? Heck no! Is this a true interational school? I am not sure.

3) The staff is the most fun I have ever worked with, after 4 other international schools. Basketball on Tuesday, Ultimate frisbee Wed, soccer on Friday, Softball on Saturday. Teacher rock band, cheap beer.

4) Peru is amazing for travel!

5) Same time zone as USA, lots of good TV on satellite, great house 5 minutes walk to school

I am glad we moved. I like it here as do most of my colleagues.

All children deserve a good education! Plus rich kids may have the same problems as the poor, absent parents. Also the students we teach, may, have a better chance of being the next leaders of the world. Don't we want to shape them into better leaders than we have now??

Salary or savings...

It is all about the savings, not the salary.

Are you paid in $$'s or Euro's. What are the costs of living? What about taxes?? Will you be a local or foriegn hire? Transport? Lifestyle?

Lets hope with all these new schools salaries and benifits go up in the next few years.

been to both

I have visited both schools, here's my thoughts. Prague is a good school, great location outside the city. Prauge itself now seems overrun with tourists, but that doesn't take away from its beauty. The school was the first new building, now 10 years old and it is showing its wear, all the other schools in the area learned from its mistakes. Nice staff, decent kids, cheap beer!

Milan, I only visited once. They are a laptop computer school, very liberal in that regard. Location way outside the city. The staff seemed young and energetic. Great food. Cool downtown, super models.....

I'd pick Prague for the better package, no taxes.

some jobs will be gone

Sorry fog, But some of the jobs will be long gone by the time UNI rolls around. If you have a hard to find job (music, library, conselor) you will be allright. Also there are lots more school now than in the past. I am sure you'll find something good, but the recruting habits of schools sure is changing fast.

Big year!!

All the teachers at our school who went to ISS Bangkok received job offfers, we got our new jobs in September. I think there are lots of new schools and lots of good jobs out there and the entire interviewing process is changing for the good (For us, the teachers).

Reasons: Better pay for teachers in the USA, more international schools, silly fears of terrorism.

Any other ideas?

look for the union label!!

The more I follow this forum, and the more stories I hear of positive changes happening because of it I wonder if it is time to think about the next step and that is an International Teachers Federation. (A union)

Here?s how it could possibly work.

Through this website teachers could become members, which happens right now. When a majority of teachers at a school are members of the ITF they could ask to have a voice on the school board or form a group that would meet to discuss school issues, i.e.: salary and benefits, hiring of administrators, etc.

This group could issue reviews of the school that are honest and fair. These reviews could then have the ITF stamp. This ITF stamp could also be issued to schools that pass some basic criteria. (Non-profits, decent housing, truly international school students population) If a school is not fair and honest with its teachers it could forfeit their positive rankings.

We could even go so far as to have our own recruiting fairs, retirement programs, lawyers or administrators that care about us.

In the past, we, as teachers had two choices, to stay at a school or to leave it. With the internet and all the information at our fingertips our options are rapidly changing. Let?s all spread the word at our schools and have a healthy dialogue on these issues.
