Re: It's raining jobs in SE Asia.

Good question, my understanding as I'm wanting to get back into SEA according to most of the comments I've read for Vietnam and Thailand (top tier) schools is mostly due to Covid. I was reading that one teacher made the comment that he is based in Vietnam and only a few days ago was the first time he was allowed out of his apartment since May. Most teachers seem to have stuck with it for that year due to uncertainty, but now a year on have decided it's too much and looking at leaving, especially those with families. The lower tier schools I would think both factors are to be considered, they are over the pandemic and could also be lowering of pay etc due to student enrollment.

Vaccination and other issues.

Hi,

Just like to know has anyone that has recently started to apply for jobs started to see a different approach coming from the school HR.

The following HR has asked me the follow just interested in other peoples findings. Not up for a debate.

1) To send your vaccination details
2) To ask to contact your references before an interview
3) Your expected salary
4) Digital copies of all academic records etc,\.

HR asking for expected salaries.

Something I have found interesting, even before your interview at a school HR asking your expected salary, slight conundrum? is this a potential sign here, should they be open and transparent, are you potentially under valuing yourself or are they also doing the same to potentially cut costs and save $$$

Schrole recruitment events

Yes that's right they are starting up soon, whats was people experience with them last time, from what I remember a complete waste of time. Did anyone else share the same view or did anyone have a positive experience? Just with the time zone difference thinking will this be another waste of time.

Re: Recruitment Scams

Think this is a new business model. Staffroom seems to be a Teacher Advocates and Career Strategists service, they don't get paid by schools as they are working with and for the teacher! They seem to run a lot of courses in regards to career development and focusing on interviews and cv building. Will be interesting to see how they grow and develop.

Updating of CV Information

This has been talked about off and on for a while, but I'm in the process of updating my CV and Linkedin pages. With the Equality act that some countries no doubt follow, within the international scene is it important not to include the following?
*Date of Birth
*Race
*Marital Status
*Sexual Orientation
*Nationality
*Photo

In the past, I always included (DOB, Marital Status, Nationality and Photo) this is because of visa-related issues and of course some Heads and Board members are extremely selective.

I understand Search and ISS have talked about this in the past. Interesting to hear people take on this.

Re: Covid and Breaking New Contract

Hi All,

The Director was honest and to my surprise handled it very well, the doors remain open and we will review things towards the end of the year. Think they also would struggle to find someone and the length of time it is now taking to process the paperwork can be over 5-6 mths that's how slow things are now taking.

Re: Covid and Breaking New Contract

Dear All,

Thanks for your honesty here, the country in reference has experienced a huge increase to around 6000-8000 case numbers per day. The country itself has had close to a year of closures with schools and malls, gyms, restaurants, etc, the concern and I understood this from the start was the medical cover, etc wasn't the greatest only cover hospitalization, I was happy to get extra insurance for my family, but now with the huge increase in case numbers, ICU wards at 100% the benefits (package) vs the safety isn't worth the risk. It's not about the money, but a school under these times should be providing standard health insurance that is of peace of mind. I did ask in the interview stages and the response was a clear no, so hence I started looking for other insurance providers. Now some arent even covering Expats for Covid and some you need to take out an extra policy, which I think the school should be doing as the numbers have increased to an alarming rate, that potential could have huge financial and health issues for me or my family if we become sick due to this ..

Re: Covid and Breaking New Contract

Not through an agent and done privately, also we have been vaccinated. Without giving too much away we are in a pretty safe country that has dealt with Covid in a positive manner.

Covid and Breaking New Contract

Just putting it out there, a potential location I have had a job offer at, Covid situation is getting worse, the company has just informed that all paperwork is now approved and expecting to be there in 90days. My question and be honest please but breaking this contract due to the Covid situation, how will this affect my chances for applying for jobs next year ie 2022 in the same country or even another country, of course, would be at a different school. My better half is extremely hesitant in going and I too.

Re: International Qualification for Headship (NPQH)

Thanks for your feedback so far, I have taught both locally and internationally for over 20 years and within that time have taught a variety of curriculums as well. I have also got a Bachelor of Education and have had a number of leadership roles, but to be honest, need to get out of the classroom, hence why I took a job at a smaller international school as a Head. I was told by past and present educators, that this course will be beneficially and add to my career development. I understand that a Master in Education and Leadership could be a better option, but time and money and general family life is something I may consider in the long term future. Hence why I was inquiring about this course, also the company is probably paying a portion of this which I will be grateful for.

The overview of the course states the following (taken from the website)

National Professional Qualification (NPQ): Headship
NPQH gives participants all of the essential knowledge, skills, and concepts that underpin successful headship. Participants will cover ‘learn that’ and ‘learn how to’ statements in ten areas:

1 – School Culture
2 – Teaching
3 – Curriculum and Assessment
4 – Behaviour
5 – Additional and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
6 – Professional Development
7 – Organisational Management
8 – Implementation
9 – Working in Partnership
10 – Governance and Accountability

What are the benefits?
The fully blended learning approach combined with performance coaching and enrichment activities makes this an exciting and valuable opportunity for current and aspiring headteachers.

The NPQH qualification is aligned to Master's credits and can act as a springboard on to Liverpool Hope University’s MA in Leading in Education or the MBA in Educational Leadership.

Benefits for Participants
Focus on and develop the key skills needed for headship
Internationally recognised, high standard organisation for leadership development
Challenge and development to deliver educational excellence in a self-improving system which will enable high-quality outcomes for pupils and students
Time to reflect on leadership practice and to network with a wide range of school leaders
Increased awareness and understanding of self and of the behaviours needed to lead a school
Increased confidence to drive the vision and improve standards
Increased capability and capacity to take on whole-school responsibility and a strengthened ability to hold others to account
Benefits for Schools
Support succession of school leaders and build a cohesive, impact-focused school leadership team
A professionally aware and informed leader who can make evidence-based decisions and approach new challenges in an effective and efficient manner
The ability to delegate responsibility effectively empowering staff to lead on whole-school improvement
The ability to review and evaluate practice in order to bring about change and get the best outcomes for young people and staff within the organisation

International Qualification for Headship (NPQH)

Just seeking people's opinions on the above course. This course costs around £2395 and would like to know if this would add benefit to future Headship Roles, I will be entering my first Headship Role at a small international school, pretty much at a junior school taking a reduction in salary but hoping that the 2/3 years of experience and learning plus using both National and Cambridge Curriculum and the NPQH added to my CV will help me in the future to seek a role at a better school with better pay and benefit.

Would like to know if anybody has done this course and after completing it found it has given them more opportunities and enhanced their career.
