A fund has been started for Dorje Gurung's project. You can donate here. Let's turn something bad into something great.

My certification is K-12, it is not subject specific, so there is no need to get an extra license where I come from.
I don't have a masters. I have a four year BA Hons and a 18 month B.Ed.
I guess what I want to do it make sure my resume looks good and doesn't throw up any worrying questions for recruiters ("he's teaching math and science, but he doesn't have a qualification in either").
As mentioned, I don't want to teach beyond grade 8. I guess I am trying to move from being an upper elementary teacher to a middle school teacher.
I'd be interested to hear about your course, Calipro.

Turning Myself into a Math Teacher
Currently I'm a grade 7 generalist overseas and I have a geography degree. Next year I will be teaching grade 7 science and math only. I am quite happy about this, as this is what I enjoy teaching the most.
Now I'm thinking perhaps I should up my qualifications in math. I could go one of two ways; I could do a masters in math / science education or do a few undergraduate math courses. I quite like the idea of doing undergrad courses as I can do them at my own pace. I wouldn't be aiming for a particular time scale, but would aim for doing 30 credits over the long term.
I have no intention of going beyond grade 8. What would give me the greater advantage, doing a masters or accumulating additional undergrad courses?

Both licensed/certified and working in an accredited school.
As, by the time I leave this school, I will have taught up to grade 7 as a generalist and maybe up to grade 8 (thinking about doing a year as a grade 8 math and sicence teacher, although that is not my degree area), would we be better off marketing ourselves as a kindergarten/grade 1 teacher and a middle school teacher?

Abu Dhabi / Dubai
I'm an intermediate elementary teacher with three years experience. My partner is a kindergarten teacher with two years (and currently supervisor of the KG program). All of this experience is in an international school in Africa.
We are trying to find somewhere more family friendly and are looking at Dubai / Abu Dhabi (or other countries in the area - but not Saudi or Kuwait and not places where we get our passport removed). There is a lot of talk about school tiers on this forum, however, we realise we are probably not tier 1 material at this stage. With our experience what schools should we aim for? We would probably aim for American or Canadian schools.
Any thoughts on specific schools in the region that would look favorably on our level of experience. We've been overseas for ten years, just not all in education. We currently save about US$25,000 a year and live a fairly decent life.

Keep it current. It's a small amount of money. Could you imagine a bunch of doctors discussing whether or not they should bother keeping their license current or just let it lapse because no one is looking?
Seriously, this is your professional certification we are talking about, not a magazine subscription.

APIS Chiang Mai
Any thoughts on this school for a family of four (two teachers)? Salary? Package? Quality of life outside school? Reviews are a bit out of date. Elementary looks better than secondary.

It's not an absolute that there must be an English native speaking population, but it would be nice. Our daughter is currently in a local international and does very well there. We just feel having a few native speakers around would ease her in to a new school. As long as she gets a good education and is happy, that's the main thing. Given that, are there any other schools we should apply to?
Thanks again
