Re: Fair Question

Are you going to the Melbourne fair??

The only reason I ask is that I have noticed that a couple of the schools are not presenting, but the timetable has not been updated since ISB and SAS pulled out.

There are a couple of reasons why schools don't present. One is a lack of time (only certain places) as only a limited number of schools can present, or the school may only have one person visiting the fair. I'm guessing this is common for smaller schools and smaller fairs like Melbourne.

If you want to chat about the Melbourne Fair feel free to PM me....

Re: Being contacted by schools....

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I currently teach a subject which has some demand (Science/Math) plus I have a little bit of experience (5 years internationally). I've already dealt with the reference and I know that there are not bad (I got my current job and some interviews with top schools with the same references!) so I'm not too worried about it.

I guess I was just interested in peoples experiences as I also got my current job through a school contacting me. My current school is interesting - plus the job is not a great fit thus the reason looking for another job (even though the school wants me to stay longer)....

Re: Nido de Aguilas in Santiago

Last year, I tried to get an interview with this school at one of the major fairs. It was easily the longest line at the fair and there were many other so called Tier 1 schools at the fair. As such - if you get an interview or a position I'd personally think very carefully about accepting the position (for a good reason).

I don't like to say it - but many teachers do make decisions on where to work based on $$$$. This school has realised this to some degree (along with the school being in a desireable location) and can cherry pick staff to their hearts content as a result.

Re: Schools that provide housing

I guess there are many different factors when considering accommodation and schools. I'm currently based in central asia and my apartment is large, reasonably nice and includes most of the basics that you need. My co-workers also have reasonable apartments but I'm also aware that other schools in the same country in which I live have horrendous apartments.

However - in developing nations I guess it's more about what is available. In the country that I'm in, I think that my school has chosen the best they can get for a reasonable price. All I'll say is that some countries have no idea of good use of space (but I guess that's better than having a small apartment)....

Being contacted by schools....

Hi all,

I've got a bit of a strange question here. Over the last few days, I was contacted by a school on Search Associates that stated that they had a position that I may be suited for,

What has been your experiences with schools contacting you directly? Has is been positive, negative or mixed??
