Ridiculously contradictory information. To Everyone reading who is actually in the midst of the application process: WeDoDude has already revealed he's a DODDEA admin. Psy Guy maintains he has a "source" higher up but has not been specific about what kind of a source this is. Until he does that I personally can't believe the things he says that contradict WeDoDude. Psy Guy: You say very convincing things but it's really hard to believe you. Can you be more specific about where you're getting this info? It's cryptic and maddening to sift through the arguing you are doing with someone in a valid position to give information.

Hey anon,
Just an FYi, I think your supervisor references have to be mailed in by them or filled out by them online as they are confidential. When they've done it you'll see check marks by their names under Status. I did the online version and then emailed my references to give them a head up to expect the link from DODDEA. Hope that helps!

Well since you each have sources, Psy Guy and WeDoDude, can one of them check on the note in my file from "SR" over at HR? As I mentioned they asked me to change my application available date to 2012/2013 and I can't do that due to missing the deadline. I tried emailing, but maybe one of the DODDEA sources you guys know could help me. FYI this was for "Elementary Spanish" and my email starts with the same beginning as my user name on here.

I've been reading along trying to wade through the back and forth. In general some of the arguments have been about semantics and nitty details. IMO PsyGuy you seem to cause quite a stir often on threads. I think you're being cryptic about having a "source" to all this information. I mean why not come out and say "I have this friend in HR". WeDoDude while not naming names has done this. It should be no surprise that people are skeptical of you with the constant mention of a "source" and your lack of written grammatical accuracy. With a supposed PhD and admin position a school it just doesn't seem legit. I'm not trying to ruffle your feathers (nothing seems to anyway), but I can't help but wonder if you're sitting in your basement somewhere in the USA playing roles you don't actually hold.
WeDoDude: thanks again for taking the time to be so responsive. I hope we can keep this thread open for further questions and feedback that will hopefully be directed only at you.

What I was saying WeDoDude is that technically one could have never applied for a state certificate of any kind and according to the DODDEA website, still be eligible to teach. I clarified by saying I don't know why that would really apply to anyone. I do not claim any insider knowledge on this, just how I read it. What Psy Guy said about Troops to Teachers makes sense as one of the only reasons why you might not obtain an actual State license.
Oh and thanks so much for the email you shared. It is very informative and helpful!

Oh and also if you meet all the DODDS requirements for a subject area you most likely would qualify for stateside licensure in at least ONE case anyway. Hopefully one would apply for that. If you're going to do student teaching, take the Praxis, and have all of these education courses, why wouldn't you just get certified? The answer is that most people would. I think only using coursework to qualify yourself becomes primarily beneficial when you are ADDING qualifications. For example: I'm state certified in ESL, elementary, and bilingual education (Spanish). I'm NOT certified to teach Spanish on any level, but I have an undergrad degree in Spanish. Therefore I'm fairly sure I'll qualify to teach Spanish without the license. I could be wrong though...

I'm actually going to have to side with PsyGuy on the certification argument. It says "In lieu of meeting DODDEA requirements..." State certification can be used to make someone qualified. If you go into HR you can read the DODDEA requirements and for each subject area and they refer specifically to educational coursework. If you don't meet the coursework requirements you can substitute your State license for 50% of them. So in essence you could get away with not being a state licensed teacher. He's right.
However...It's probably a mute point because while you could be considered qualified, without actual full time teaching experience you would likely not be considered and when there are plenty of applicants for a position who both meet educational requirements and are State certified they would clearly bump someone who does not have both.
So the guy/girl whose marked Unqualified is probably due to not having the coursework Psy Guy mentioned, BUT when he get's his license he will be qualified because he would only need to meet the 50% thing and he will have that.
For the person applying for SPED who is licensed, she/he would only be eligible if the teaching license was accompanied by at least 50% or 15 credits of Special Ed. However she/he has never actually taught full time so there by not be a job there for them...
Hope that helps and hope the back and forth will calm down a bit.

Sorry one more question: I have a note in the Qualifications section for Elementary Spanish. Whoever is evaluating it "SR" asked me to go and change the date of availability for this coming school year. I can't do that though because I missed the deadline by a few days. Thoughts? I tried emailing them, but not sure if that will get me anywhere.

WeDoDude
WeDoDude Firstly I want to just thank you again for taking the time out to inform those of us who are hopefuls. It's really appreciated. I've gone ahead and switched my date to available now even though it says I'm applying for 2013/2014. We figured we'd just go for it and see what happens. So even though all my application materials are in and complete and I see Qualified listed already for ESL (everything else still says Pending), am I to assume that my application is NOT yet activated? Is there anyway to know when it is?
Anon Agree on scanning the transcripts as a PDF in one file. That's what I did to get them all on one upload.
