"So, you work for one of those schools doing online learning, PsyGuy? No, thought not."
Obviously not, or he would know you can't assign Youtube videos because of the Great China Firewall

Re: China People - What Does Online Learning Look Like for You Right Now?
My life right now, 14 hours behind Shanghai time, revolves around trying to produce interesting online lessons for my kids. I spend a couple of hours in the morning answering questions that my students had while I was asleep. Probably 20% of those questions are tech in nature and the rest are around instructions and other types of questions. I then spend a couple of hours in the afternoon working on lessons, its been a challenge for me to develop variety into them, and then I spend 2-3 hours in the evening answering more questions and assessing work that has been submitted.
Our online learning is centered on Schoology, love it or hate it. I have recently incorporated MS365 into my lessons but the core is still Schoology where students will find the lesson objectives, agenda etc.
My internal calendar is slightly messed up as my work brain is 1 day ahead of the rest of my body. My weekends begin Friday morning and end Sunday afternoon now.
Student participation rates have improved since we started DL, but for individual students they are up and down as their situation changes. Many of my students are still in Shanghai but overall they are spread out around the globe. We have had students enroll in local schools wherever they have landed and while still on my lists they don't participate anymore.
I find the unknown date of return one of the hardest things to deal with. We have been told we will get a 3 week notice before school starts that incorporates a 14 day quarantine in our apartment, I am dreading that isolation. Now that the incubation period is under some question and apparently there are reports of a 26 day incubation period, an equal length quarantine might put me over the edge.
My school has been very supportive, educationally and financially, so that makes it easier.
I do enjoy doing school in whatever I have on at the moment and doing it wherever I want.

Re: Search, China, and Reneging
I don't think its the deadly/not deadly aspect that is so overwhelming about the CoronaVirus, after all the flu has killed 8000+ in the United States this flu season. I think its the fact that unlike the flu, those infected with the CoronaVirus need more intensive medical treatment, and that is what is overwhelming Wuhan and scares the bejesus out of the rest of China. We live and work in Shanghai and will head back when the SEC tells us that our school will re-open. I don't want to think about having to ramp up a job search at this point in the year.

Re: Using Housing Allowance to Purchase Property
We bank approximately $1300 month of our housing allowance, as long as we can provide a receipt for the total amount they don't ask or care how we spend it.

We flew back to the US yesterday, after the deadline, and the immigration officer essentially gave us a big yawn and welcomed us back.
We were told today not to expect to return on the 17th, which was the first prediction. Some are betting early April.

Having worked for #1 I can attest to the frustration one can feel dealing with the issue of Mastery, however #2 could frustrate you as well as the schedule will change on a whim and holidays while seemingly generous will be offset by having to work weekends to make up the lost time. I also think your net will be less than what you think, I currently pay 30% of my salary in China in taxes. School #1 makes good on all their promises.

Just a thought, there are schools out there that are limited in the number of children teachers can have not by the school itself but by the country. We ran into that problem once.

Lots of opinions and anecdotal evidence, wouldn't it be interesting if there was some quantitative data which I know would be impossible to gather and keep current but interesting nevertheless.

Job search strategy for European Schools
We are an experienced IS teaching couple looking for a school in Europe. Any suggestions on the best fair to attend or would we be better off without the fair and simply applying directly?

That makes sense as they try to control the flow of cash out of the country.

Re: Unionpay annual withdraw limit time frame
I must be missing something as I have a Unionpay debit card and I can withdraw 20K/day from my account with no limit to a yearly amount.
