Re: School in the Wrong

The teacher did 2 x 2 years contract so a total of 4 years.

Teacher contract didn't get renewed for the next 2-year contract as wasn't the right fit.

After seeking legal advice the teacher has now found out that this was illegal in the contract and the school didn't follow the correct due process.

The teacher still has to work until the end of the contract and end of the academic year but it seems is now actively seek new employment

School in the Wrong

Ok, a moral question here let's stick to the topic, please.

So a contract wasn't renewed by the HOS, because the person didn't fit in even though the teacher was there for 4 years and had two contracts. The teacher has now found out through legal representation that in fact this was done illegally. So what does the teacher do in this situation?

How would this impact future employment situations?

If the teacher decides to go to Court what other implications could this present itself in the future?

Of course, this teacher will be seeking monies from the school for a number of things which hasn't be decided by the lawyer and the teacher if it went to Court or try for an out of Court settlement.

Has anyone else faced the same problem and what was the outcome both short term and long term?

Search Associates vs ISS Schrole (Benefits)

So have applied for a job that is currently advertised on both sites. Their list of benefits is way off. S/A is higher and when having the interview the amounts that kind of got talked about is also off. Doesn't this seem unfair and how do we make the above recruitment agencies be accountable for not updating their database? Have told the person that was interviewing me that the benefits listed aren't accurate and for that reason would need to negotiate to make it beneficial.

Anyone else faced this problem.

@PsyGuy. No such thing as free education in Japan including the public school setting. Also as Gaijin in a public school brings on a whole lot of other ve- experience.

Re: Bad Timing

Trust me don't be fooled, there is no such thing as free education in Japan. The only way it's free if it falls under a scholarship anything different from that you will be paying the tax on the education fee which can be very high depending on the school and its yearly fees. This is from someone that has lived and taught in Japan for over 10 years married to a Japanese and has permanent visa

Re: Reference question

Difficult one, I'm experiencing something similar now, my contract not getting renewed next year. Four years working for the school and I was a Team leader. My HOS is happy to be a reference but did state that if any schools asked he would be saying that I didn't fit in. So I have to try and think about how to make that a positive. That I had the passion and drive and that my teaching philosophy wasn't aligned with the school, which is true.

Have copies of everything inform them the truth and don't lie it's such a small industry and you never know, also seek reference from parents which could be useful. Good Luck

How to link IPC and PYP

In the process of writing a cover letter and having trouble explaining how my knowledge and experience within IPC would enable me to have a seamless transition into teaching in the PYP framework. Also, need to relate it to how and why it is relevant to PYP

Anyone could share some ideas please, no sarcasm and please just to the question that was asked.

Thanks if you can help

Re: Salaries in UAE

@ everyone,

I'm looking at the salary or even a realistic one.

Some schools will offer different packages such as free accommodation or an allowance or neither. Situated in the UAE we all know that you will be foolish to accept a job that doesn't include free accommodation or a very strong allowance. I know teachers that needed to live together just so they could afford to pay the rent as their allowance was so poor not finding this out until they actually arrived. Some even pay utilities. Of course in my eyes, I wouldn't accept a job at any school that doesn't provide free airfares for the whole family and if that is annually after completion of the first contract. Also, that school would be needed to cover health insurance, some form of pension, education for one or two children (some now first child is free second is at 80%) etc. So at the end of the day just looking at monthly salary as I'm aware that the others factored together would make the whole package over 6 figures.

Salaries in UAE

Understand market is going from the UAE.
But with over 18 years experience and 15+ years international experience. What is a nice salary in UAE. Of course the standard of flights yearly, free accomidation, free education, visa and health insurance is must. Focus is for me and my family would be to save.

People currently living their would be helpful.

Re: Breaking Contracts

Hi All,

Thanks for your feedback and opinions on this matter, that's the great thing about this site and forum people willing to share their thoughts and feelings and understanding. So just a few points which doesnt change the situation which was me now simpling asking the question to HR has resulted in my contract not been renewed. So simple choice is to jump ship and pay a huge fine or stay until the end of the year and hope something else comes up for the start of 2020. I have 18 years experience and the last 15 has been overseas working at some top tier 2 schools. Rare I now but focusing on Early Years and KS1, I have had leadership roles and Year Leader positions etc, and have worked with a number of curricula. The school in SEA is one school under the company umbrella which has Tier 1 and a couple of Tier 2 schools and a number of other schools, plus a university. This school would be lower Tier 2. Will write a detailed review of the school and its leadership at some stage, but even HR and HOS are stating conflicting information with the breaking of the contract which is going to mean some interesting times ahead, but the bottom line there are a couple of penalties which are a punishment for completing and renewing another contract.

But thanks again for your reads
