Re: Norway questions

Once you have reached age of retirement are there countries which make it difficult for you to collect your pension payouts if you live abroad?
Being a citizen of the country where you have worked towards your state pension is no requirement or advantage from what I have seen. I hope I have that right?
We're not finding it easy to get information in Switzerland. It's either very secretive or consulting fees are required.

Re: Norway questions

We're now teaching in Switzerland but not terribly happy with the school or location. We're wondering if any of our pension contributions might be transportable to another European country. Are there special agreements between various EU countries so they need to be investigated individually? Which ones would be more likely to have an agreement with Switzerland?

Re: Harvard Certificate in School Management and Leadership?

I have a Master of Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. I do love teaching and do not have any experience whatsoever working in a school other than strictly as a teacher. I am undecided but may want to move into leadership or administration in a few years time. Would taking this Harvard Certificate now be a waste of time if I did not accept a leadership or administration position until a few years from now? Should I wait?

More or less marketable?

Would a chemistry teacher be more or less marketable in a job search by himself or as part of a teaching couple with a female partner who was an elementary school teacher?

Re: Middle east: Unmarried teaching couples

Thank you. Are there some countries in the middle east where being an unmarried teaching couple would not pose a problem for living together in teacher housing?

Middle east: Unmarried teaching couples

In the middle east are unmarried teaching couples with a non-school age child more or less marketable than childless non-married teaching couples; or is there a difference?

How does IPC compare to PYP?

Does anyone have an opinions on IPC compared to PYP in terms of:
1. Student success.
2. Teacher satisfaction with curriculum, resourcing, planning, assessment, workload.
3. Projected future of both programs.

Admin: How long to wait for school review to be posted?

I submitted a school review about a week ago and it has not appeared on in the review section yet. I completed the ratings and wrote something in the review section. I think everything was accurate including head names, link, etc. Should I submit again or keep waiting?

Re: Ex-Parte Investigation

I wouldn't want to get the guy who told you in trouble because then in the future nobody will want to give you any important information like this which you will want to know. And this guy may have more details about the investigation you will want to know. In fact, I'd want to get him drunk again and find out all the ways you are being investigated. So, sit back, think about things and use that information the best way you can.
I assume being investigated means being monitored. Well, use this opportunity to do the best work you can in every way. If the people investigating you don't know you know you're being monitored then they'll be even more impressed with your good work.
Are they looking into your past? Contacting references? Asking around about you? If so, that would bother me as it might create an air of suspicion about you.

Online sites where vacancies are posted

Aside from recruiting agencies what are some of the online places for schools to post vacancies? TIE, TIS, etc? Any others? I've never used anything other than recruiting agencies.

Norway pre-existing medical conditions, subsidized machines?

I'm curious, in Norway:

1. Are all new residents' pre-existing medical conditions covered such as diabetees, vitiligo, hearing loss?
2. Are machines necessary for the above conditions either subsidized by the state or supplied by the state? Machines such as insulin pumps, UVB machines, hearing aids?

I'm wondering if I should sell or give away my medical machines to avoid having to ship, deal with differences in electricity, etc. There have also been some technological advances and I'd like to try new models. But I won't have the money just yet to buy new ones if/when I move to Norway.

Does anyone know?

Re: Identifying Good Teachers Bad Teachers

This is terrible and would be a glowing red flag for me.

Is sounds like the new school head has read the playbook for the GESTAPO. I hope you call him/her out on this by posting a school review and/or head of school review. That's disgusting behaviour.

I agree bad teachers should be called out. The problem is that some bad teachers, instead of putting their energies into being a good teacher to save themselves, put their energies into backstabbing, lying, setting up teachers, and self-promoting bullshit. Some of them have a lot of energy, are quite clever and quite successful at their game. I can see some of them licking their lips and seeing this tactic of the head of school as a great opportunity for them. I'd get the hell out of that place for sure.

How do payscales work in Norway?

I've read some school profiles and they offer different pay. But my understanding was the government assesses a teacher's credentials and experience and then identifies you on their set scale. The only different in salary could come from the extra stipends the actual school gives you. But I'm seeing very different salaries. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thank you. :)
