Re: Joining ISS

Alexandru, If you have the financial means, I would advise registering with both ISS and Search. If you can only afford one, I would go with Search as they are used by more schools. You can also post your resume on TIE for low cost. Many schools use the database to search for candidates, which will ...

Re: Stats, Pros & Cons (Oh My!)

Newsadvisor, Go for it. There will be some schools who will shy aways due to age restrictions, but there are many that don't start until 65 or later. You years of experience will serve you well. The question some will ask is how happy will your husband be if he cannot find work. In many countries, h...

Re: Bangkok Questions

Rudyard, I would be careful about counting your coaching as teaching experience. If you put down 7 years, then in it comes out in the interview or reference check that the years coaching was not full-time teaching experience, most schools will stop the process because you gave them false or misleadi...

Re: Is this a red flag to recruiters?

coughingfurballs, First of all, ignore resigio. Must be a bitter person who clearly did not read your email. As a recruiter, I do not see any red flags. You path is pretty typical. Short stays in the beginning but longer ones moving forward. Three and four years stints are fine. If you are asked abo...

Re: 2017-2018 Recruiting

For teachers, the openings will really start in October with the vast majority being posted in December. Having said that, some schools have already posted some. The contract renewals dates are getting earlier and earlier, with many schools now offering bonuses to teachers who let the school know ea...

Re: Interviewing the Interviewers

Hitesteacher, As a recruiter, I would not complete your form before we interview simply due to time constraints at a fair. After the interview, if I thought there might be a fit, I would make sure we had time to go through all of your questions in person. If I offered you a contract, I would be happ...

Re: ISS or Search

lemon lily, If the money is not too much, I would encourage you to sign up with both. While many schools use both, there are a good number that only use one or the other. Signing up with both would increase your exposure. It is a bit of pain for your references to do two forms, but they only take a ...

Re: Choosing the right fair..

Helloiswell, If you can only go to one, go to Search in Cambridge. There will be over 100 schools there many from Asia but also others around the world. Like the previous posts, I would advise you to move fast to get your file activated and a confirmation for the Search fair. Frequently the fair wil...

Re: Search Fair for 4 Days?

Wilcoman, For candidates, it is generally a two and half day event. It is good if you can be there on the Thursday for early interviews, but not absolutely necessary. Most candidates, who do not live locally, travel on Thursday and get to the hotel by mid to late afternoon on Thursday. If you live c...

Re: Part time positions

I do not know of a school that has hired a part-time teacher with full overseas-hire benefits. I have seen these positions filled as part of a teaching couple with the partner taking a full-time position.

Re: Abu Dhabi

Lpbuckley, I spent seven years in the ME and enjoyed most of my time there. I was in a country more conservative than the UAE. Most of our entertainment came from the school and expat community, so your experience will partly depend upon the school where you are working. If it is ACS, then you will ...

Re: Acceptance of Teacher Ready/Teach Now certification?

TD, Make sure the certification they are offering to help you with is a state certification, one that would allow you to teach in a particular state, not a "Teach Away" certification. If it is, you would then list you are certified in xyz state, which would at least satisfy the requirement most inte...

Re: Is it late in the recruiting season?

For single elementary teachers, the recruiting season is just beginning and many top schools will not have even started looking at those positions.
