Re: Search Stats

Psyguy, The number of 5,200 was the exact number of candidates whose files are active in Search as of yesterday. Recruiters can access that number. Yes, it does not include those who have taken a position or those who have started a file, but it is not active yet. I provided the number only to give ...

Re: Package Negotiations

br12,

I do not know many schools that will provide extra compensation to single teachers in lieu of the free tuition. The reason is for many schools allowing a teacher's child to attend free does not cost the school much if anything where as an extra flight home would be a real expense.

Re: Package Negotiations

Splendid, I neglected to address the first part of your question, what would be your top 10 package/salary requirements? Here are mine in relative order. I am sure different people may put them in a different order. 1. Regionally competitive salary as measured by ability to save 2. At least 10% for ...

Re: Package Negotiations

I have work at five international schools, two of them would be considered elite or tier 1 schools, and none of them allowed negotiation on salary or housing. Good luck if you can get extra, but do not be disappointed if they tell you the compensation is fixed.

Re: SA Job Fair Questions and chances for employement?

PsyGuy, I have taken issue with some of your posts in the past, but to be fair, I should also commend your quality posts. This is one of the most comprehensive pictures of a recruiting fair that I have seen. I may not agree with a couple of your conclusions, overall it is very accurate. Thanks for s...

Re: Search Stats

As of today, there are 5,224 candidates registered with Search. I have never seen any published annual statistics down to the level you are suggesting. At the end of each recruiting season they can tell you how many people have been placed, but to my knowledge they do not break it down by curriculum...

Re: Global Recruitment Collaborative, Dubai Fair

Just came back from the fair as a recruiter. The candidate pool was very strong as they were all veteran overseas teachers who had worked at some good to great schools. Singapore American School, Zurich International School, International School of Beijing, American School of Dubai were the top scho...

Re: Early season interviews/offers

The recruiting season is well underway. What used to occur from December to February now is October to April. There is now a recruiting fair in November. I expect to offer contracts to a couple for next year this week. I would encourage you to contact the other schools once you have a firm offer fro...

Re: Global Recruitment Collaborative, Dubai Fair

Can only speak for my school, but I will be there with contracts looking to sign high quality teachers. The fair was actually started for schools who value face to face interactions with candidates. There are over 40 schools signed up to attend and over 100 candidates already. Looking forward to the...

Re: Visa Question

The visa is issued by public security, however they have to be authorised by a different government ministry. For some schools, it is the ministry of education and for others it is the foreign ministry. The ministries have different offices in different parts of the country and when I was there, the...

Re: Visa Question

Psyguy, Have you worked in China and been responsible for getting staff visas? I have. My school had to go through one ministry and other schools in the same city as well as other schools in different cities when through a different ministry. It all depends upon how the school was founded. I doubt y...

Re: Visa Question

b12, The schools in China get the visa from different government agencies and the rules can vary region to region. At one time, the age limit for Shanghai was 65, but in Beijing it was 70. There is no one system. Additionally, the Chinese government has recently increased the requirements. The schoo...

Re: Schools, locations for non-married teaching couples?

One thing to consider is that you will mostly liked be hired as couple as opposed to two individual contracts. One impact is if a problem arises in the contract and one person leaves, the other person may not have a position as well. One school had a practice of come as a couple, leave as a couple.

Re: Aquatics Directors

Few schools have this position. They are generally larger schools in Asia or Europe. Given the limited number of positions, the people tend to stay in place for a long time. As you noted, when there is an opening, there will be a limited pool of candidates. The Aquatics Directors I have known are ge...

We loved every school and enjoyed each country. Your best bet for having money to travel and savings would be Asia, Middle East or Eastern Eur...
