Re: China closed

Zenteach - I suspect it will all be sorted for now. China is experiencing the second-wave of COVID and wants to prevent its spread again. Ironic, because reports I see say that 90% of the people returning with COVID are Chinese nationals.

Re: Can I force Majeure?

PG - Good luck with that. China might be issuing them because of how they handled it, but not every country is China or will even think about a 'certificate' when there are so many other things going on. An IT declaring a situation FM and expecting to get their contractual FM benefits is not somethi...

Re: China closed

I can assure you that China is now closed to non-passport holders. Chinese citizens only. Nobody with a non-Chinese passport is being boarded on to planes going to China.

No, this is not a guess.

Re: Can I force Majeure?

Schools can apply force Majeure due to in situ events. For instance, a natural disaster leaves the school in shambles. A . forces major employers to shift people away from the region/country. Schools - good schools - don't use force majeure lightly, but it has been known to happen. What I am seeing ...

Re: Job Cuts

Most schools will not stay online. Students and parents don't really like it, although they recognize the necessity of it. Some schools will face falling enrollments as a result of closures - the longer the closure the more likely it is to lose students. At the same time, families that don't come ba...

Re: Health Insurance?

To echo what Heliotrope said, most reputable schools give coverage starting August 1 and ending July 31, so your coverage should not lapse.

Look into that.

Re: Insurance Question

This is the example of a totally useless organization masquerading as a useful one. They have no clout internationally, won't be able to do much to help you internationally in terms of working conditions, etc - but you pay them money. I would avoid them.

We have a few openings left to fill and interest is picking up for them - from people currently in China.

Re: Who'd You Rather?

I'd be looking at all but d. Then it comes down to fit, and how the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle fit. Recruitment and filling positions is like a jigsaw puzzle - you put all the pieces and see which ones fit the best. Sometimes it is a teaching couple in your areas, sometimes it is two singles, somet...

Are you only checking British schools? That would be my first question. If no, then you should be looking at different services, such as SEARCH.

@PG - tuition for children is part of YOUR job package - YOU are the employee, not your kids. That's why it's taxable in countries like Germany.

Re: Situation in China

Schools that close because of civil unrest and schools that close because of a . are in different boats.

The . runs through a population and is 'done' so to speak. Civil unrest, like the flights out of Cairo in 2011 or so, are a different story.

Shadylane - some schools go to Search Cambridge because they are small, and so avoid competing with the bigger schools in Bangkok and London, simply because they can't offer the same packages and conditions. Doesn't mean they aren't good schools, just not in the same league. Other schools go because...

"Is it because I just need more experience? Yes. Also, if you are applying for levels you haven't taught, that makes it harder again. For those areas - some of those schools are sinkholes - or as we call them - bargepole schools - meaning you wouldn't want to touch them, even with a bargepole. Good ...
