Re: Housing for families in Asia

Here is a hint - the ME no longer really cares if you are Christian or Muslim or atheist. However, just put Christian on your application for immigration - they really don't care, but their system doesn't recognize atheist. Apart from that, there is no pressure on you, nobody, even in Saudi, is real...

Re: Inclusivity

There are schools out there that are more colorblind. You just have to find them.

Re: Looking for advice: PGCE, PGCiE or M.Ed.

You need certificaion. neither of the PGCEs will give you QTS in the UK. I would recomment TeachNow out of Washington DC, which will get you US certification. You can then explore whether this transfers over to Italy, where you might want to park your certification afterwards. Otherwise, it is a who...

Re: Salary Comparisons for Singapore international schools

One thing to be aware of is that if you are in Singapore and applying to Singapore schools, you might be considered a local hire. That will impact some elements of your contract, such as flights home.

Re: Malaria

I have lived in malarial areas. The best thing to do is have a 3 day treatment of malarone with you (think 3 pills a day), and if you THINK you have malaria, do the three day treatment. Disclaimer - I have never had malaria, despite two years in a malaria zone with others getting it, but I was told ...

Re: How long do you stay at your 'dream school'?

For me it was 8 years, 3 principals, and two directors. The second director was the one who made me go, "Yeah, time to leave." Many others stayed, but I just couldn't. I was in a position where I answered to the director and it just made me shake my head and leave.

Re: Should I get a second credential?

Sid has nailed it. Either move up in your present system, or go overseas as a primary teacher, but work to move up to MS when a vacancy arises. Don't necessarily announce that as your goal in your interviews - wait until you are there and have established your bona fides...

Re: degree in subject matter vs. certification

porter1 - if you think IT is pedantic you haven't been following trends in education. Pedants, at least in my experience, are on the way out, and teacher who can deliver inquiry based learning in a content delivered framework are in demand. LOL - it is not the same education system of the past at ma...

Re: Staying for the Summer, or flying home for a visit?

Most of our returning teachers who are still in country are staying for the summer. Friends in similar situations in other countries are also staying.

I'm with fine dude on this one - if you aren't reaching out to your new school, you don't REALLY know what's going on. Our new staff have been in touch and know their jobs are secure, which, at this point, is the main thing.

Re: Admin role

Wow - Blinky is a snarky PG type! @ Finedude - You're definitely right about the 'career trajectory' and the 'professional experience'. I, too, interpreted the OP along the same lines as Helio. My response was predicated along those lines. I am also familiar with schools where it is some teachers, n...

Re: Admin role

fine dude - if you are basing it solely on technical/technology ability - no, admin won't be made redundant unless enrollment is an issue. Some schools might even add admin if their tech coordinator/integrator wasn't up to the task, but I don't believe (although I could be wrong) admin will take the...
