A bit about me:

In my 4th year in the States teaching social studies, including some AP classes. Will have my MA in history as well by next school year. Looking to move back to Asia or possibly the Middle East. I would only be able to do 1 job fair and would spend most of my time applying online. As for job fairs if Search it would have to be Cambridge and if ISS Atlanta.

My big question is which should I use to apply to schools?

If I am not sure I can make one of the job fairs, should I sign up for ISS or Search? or is it a waste of money if I can't attend? I don't have money for both but want to at least give it a try.
3 years experience teaching in US and I have experience living overseas (3 years ESL in S. Korea).

Looking for info on the school. Seems it began in 2013 and is partnered with North Carolina State Univ. Can't seem to find any reviews anywhere though.

Well by goal I mean eventually. It is not a must for me to find a job in SK next year. I'm open to other places to work my way up through the IS system. Thanks for all the input.

Okay, thanks for the input. I used to live in South Korea and that is my #1 location. I loved it and really would like to go back. This time as a certified teacher. Before I just taught ESL at a hagwon.

Forgive my noobness, but what do you mean by hardship locations?

I am in my second year of teaching here in the US. I spent 3 years in South Korea teaching ESL before coming back to get certified. I'm interested in going back.

My main question is about a fair. I'm looking at going to one here in the US, either UNI or perhaps BOS (Search). Is the Boston fair worth the added expense for someone new to international teaching?

I want to teach in either South Korea, China, Taiwan, or perhaps the ME.

I don't really want to go to LA just yet. Perhaps one day. First I want to go to the ME and pay off my debt, then head back to Asia hopefully to spend the rest of my days. I'm not in a position where I have to leave where I am at. It is not so undesirable that I just can't stand it. I will probably finish out my 2 years here. The pay is good, but the area is not the greatest to live in. I just really miss living overseas.

My main question is should I wait until I have 2 years of experience, or start looking this year for something next year. I am not sure where I am is right for me. I could wait it out for another year if I absolutely had to, but would rather be back overseas.

I'd like to start applying in December, but I also don't know what to do as far as references since this is my first year. I don't want my current employer to feel like I am running away already, because if I don't find something suitable I would like to return. Catch 22 it seems. How have people dealt with this in the past?

I know people throw out tiers on this site, I am not worried about what "tier" the school is. I just want to teach social studies.

Send Teacher Ready and email and they can put you in contact with people in Korea that have done the program and where they did their student teaching. I know they have a facebook page too. There were several people in Korea in my practicum that recently finished.

I'm still in the process. It seems most jobs here in the states are posted a little after those overseas. I'm headed to a job fair in March that will hopefully lead to a job. It seems late March/early April are when the jobs start flooding in here in the states.

I just wanted to chime in on the Teacher Ready program. I just finished up the program and I am now certified in social science. The program is good and very flexible which I think is why it is so popular overseas. Many of those in my cohort were living overseas while they finished. I can't recommend it enough.

Good luck with whatever you decide. For me I am staying put in the US for a few years just to get experience before moving back overseas. I, like you, taught ESL before and came home just so I could get certified.

Yes you would have to come back to the US in order to take the exams.

Teacher Ready is a good program. Not sure what how it would work for a Brit through the American school though.
