Re: When did you decide to settle down?

Still haven't settled down. Mid 40's.

Leaving a high paying job now that I absolutely love to go to a better location for less money. May be a mistake, time will tell.

BUT applying for jobs, relocating and starting at new schools is becoming harder and harder and more and more stressful.

I am looking at this job and then hopefully one last move after that whenever that may be.

Re: Signs it is Time to Move On

Signs it's time to move on...

Motivation is low.
You feel stale.
Environment is toxic.
Leadership suck.
You are not happy outside of work.

Re: Covid and Breaking New Contract

Tough one.

I'm leaving a Covid free zone to go to a place where Covid is rampant. Had the vaccine.

It is a school I've always had my sights on and never been successful before...so it's a good opportunity.

I'll roll the dice.

Hopefully this will all be done in a year or two.

Re: Should I stay or should I go?

mmmm yes... this is a conundrum and something lots of us have been through..

very difficult for us to answer...

Are you happy?
What are your goals?

If you're not happy in your outside life I would be considering looking at other options..it can't hurt to have a crack and see what comes up..

I was once in a city I loved but I hated the school and the money wasn't brilliant...I decided to leave in the end because of the school. I loved the day I left the school but I missed the city and the life I had a lot....

Now I have been at a school that I absolutely love with great people and great money..but life outside of work has bored me to tears..just nothing there for me. So I have made the decision to move... I feel extremely sad about it.

But life is short and you can not base your life around your job.

You got one shot at it kiddo... go with your gut.

Do you live to work, or work to live?

Re: Feeling anxious/sad

yep, thanks for the responses. It's very interesting.
Amazing the roller coaster ride you go through.

I love my teaching job right now but life outside of work is boring.
I would also be taking a cut in pay.

I am anxious about giving up my great job and very nice pay.
But looking forward to having a life.

Great advice on here.

Feeling anxious/sad

So you have a landed a new job overseas as it gets closer and becomes reality that you are leaving your family, friends (support network) and the secure job you really love.

Instead of feeling excited you are starting to feel sad and anxious...and that makes you start wondering/ second guessing yourself if you are doing the right thing.

Is this normal???????

I would like to hear some stories.

Who do y u send letter/cv to?

When you contact a school directly expressing your interest to work there who do you send your information to?

Human Resources, Director, Principal or Heads? What has worked for you?

Re: Staying international or going home?

This is a great question and a tough one to answer since their is so many variables to give a finite answer...

I have been home for 5 years and a day hasn't gone by where I haven't thought about being abroad. Having said that I am in a way better position financially and I love the school I work at. Outside of that everything else sucks.

If you love the school you work at and you love the city you are in and the money is good...going home can really bring you down.

It's difficult to find the perfect combination...city/school (staff, students, money, parents, workload) and once u do I suggest u don't take it for granted.

going into a school v email

Is there any advantage of going into a school and handing over your resume on hard copy face to face as opposed to emailing it ??

for the most part had fantastic experiences and worked with fantastic people.

probably come across 2 evil, backstabbing 2 faced people in my whole time...sadly they always seem to be women. When u get a sniff of people like this steer clear...they are nothing but trouble and if they are in admin watch out.

Other than that...met some of the most wonderful people from all over the world.
