edit: 60,000/mo

thanks for the insight, from what I've looked up, 60,000 seems low too... anybody else have thoughts about this?

Cost of living in Taipei

Here's a question for any of you who've lived in Taipei.

Is it possible to live in Taipei, with a trailing spouse and 2 young children, on 60,000 NT/year? I should add that housing is included, and that I'm looking to live pretty frugally.

My research on living in Taipei is giving me mixed results... some say it's doable, others say it'd be tough. Any advice would be useful, thanks.

Safety of International schools

Hello all. As I have begun searching and hopefully securing my first position abroad, I was curious about school safety for my almost school-age children. Being a US public school teacher, we have CORI checks to ensure that none of us are criminals and are safe to work around children. Is there any such check performed by international schools?

Also, has anyone with children who has been abroad had any concerns related to the safety of their children be it 'fishiness' of a school employee in regards to their children, etc..? I will also post on the blog. Just wanted to cast my net wider for audiences here.

Thanks! Good luck to everyone looking for a position!
What about ESL? I know I've mentioned already they qualified me despite missing the application deadline. However under Status there is no checkmark for "Certifiactes verified and in file". What does that mean?
I would contact the DODEA office in VA by phone and see what they can do about getting that box checked off. I called them last week asking some questions about my application. I just finished my application this week, and the guy I spoke to said my application would still be considered for this year.

IB experience / getting hired

Hey Folks,

What are my options for getting IB experience/training as a HS math teacher without actually teaching at an IB school?

I've been reading about how it can be a plus when it comes to getting hired, want to know if there's something I can do about it.

I've got 5 years teaching stateside, I'm certified and everything, but I figure I could really use any boost since I have a non-teaching spouse and 2 preschool age kids.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks!
