Do UK schools (not international ones) hire American teachers?

Thanks for the info Gus. Any chance you could share the names of a few schools that are safe and high quality in the ME in your opinion? If you don't want to share here, I can give you my email.

ME without fair?

Any possibility of landing a job in a really nice school in the ME without going to a fair or registering with an agency?

I'm also a French teacher who is not a native speaker. Last year I began looking around for an International Teaching job and my hubby and I are trying to figure out if we're going to go all in and register with an agency this year. I have to admit, I think that being a non-native speaker makes it pretty hard to get a job (and I would say just about impossible if you're talking about West. Europe) in this market. By no means am I an expert, I'm just letting you know what I've seen during my half-derriered search this past year or so. Maybe consider adding an ESL minor? It seems like it's not a lot of credits compared to some other add-on endorsement areas.
For me, I'm considering adding something whether it be ESL, IT, Lib., or I don't know what. Le sigh...

Librarian endorsement?

Would taking grad classes to get a school library endorsement help me to find a job abroad even if I don't have a job as a school librarian? I'm already a h.s. teacher but since I teach a modern language and I'm not a native speaker I'm trying to see what else I can do to help me be more marketable. Plus I like the idea of working in a library :-)

Thanks for the info psyguy! And one more question, I assume there's no way for a spouse to find a job in Belgium, even if they do speak French, right?

Oh wow. I have researched it and our tax bracket would be around 40-50%. And thanks for the civics lesson.

If anyone else has lived in Belgium with a family and would like to chime in, I'd really appreciate it.

We're not looking for a penthouse apartment or anything. Just to be able to live in a 2 bedroom, not worry about every cent we spend, and be able to travel a bit. Won't we loose half of our salary in taxes there too?

Cost of living in Belgium

What type of yearly salary (in euros) do you think a family of 3 would need to do alright in Europe?

@WeDoDude: Thanks for all the great info! Is there any chance at non-military people getting hired or should we not waste our time?

I did end up giving them to the end of the week and then I sent a follow-up email making it clear that we are in line with their religion. I haven't heard from them since, so I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed for now.

Thanks for the advice! It's been about 3 working days since I emailed them. I'm not sure how fast schools are working to fill positions at this point in the year. It's hard to decide what's pushy and what's lazy at this point.

So I finally received a response from one school, and it's a school I'm really excited about. They asked me how their school's principles would influence my application...refering to the fact that they are a Christian school. As an American who was brought up to be super PC, I responded delicately that my hubby and I are both from Christian backgrounds and would fit in nicely there. I haven't hear back from them since (a few days). I'm wondering if I need to be more clear and state precisely we are Christians and we want to work for you. Would it be weird for me to send a follow-up email explaining as much? Or should I let it go and cross my fingers?
