That makes sense now. We have really researched the schools that she is applying to, so we have a pretty good idea of which schools are dedicated to education and not profit.

Ultimately that's all that matters to Heather. The package doesn't even really matter all that much as I will still be working for a US company online. Thanks for the clarification.
Cheers,

Brett

I wondered the same thing, and I too would say that he has given me some pretty valuable feedback. Although, I have also read others posts where he was rather lame with people.

Huge Mistake?

tennisfanusa, I'm curious why you feel that not attending a job fair was a big mistake, yet you found a job? I ask because my wife is getting ready to apply directly to a bunch of schools all over the world because she really doesn't want to deal with lines and all the hustle and bustle. Not to mention the expense to get to and attend a fair.

Maybe that is a huge mistake as well. She just feels that with 7 years of 1st grade experience, great references, and further endorsements earned, that she will at least get responses from some decent tier 2 schools.

Maybe we are too confident in her resume...?

Thanks for the info. The reason we thought that would be a good fair is because it is the first one, but we would rather go to the San Fran fair anyway. That fair isn't until February 13th. Do you think most positions will be filled by then?

What schools attending?

When will we know (or will we?) which schools are attending the Atlanta fair?

Yeah, it was my husband that inquired previously about website design. Again, thank you all for the information. We are really excited to go abroad, and hope it all works out.

Zsejanko,
Thank you for the insight. I feel better about my chances after reading that. I do have a non-teaching spouse that works online, however, I also have 6 years of experience teaching 1st grade at a title one school with lots of ESL children.

In addition I have my ESL, Math, and Reading endorsements. Over the past 3 years I fulfilled various leadership positions within the district, and have great reference letters. My husband and I are in great shape and are well traveled internationally, so hopefully there is a position out there for us.

I'm worried about my husband not being a teacher as well. Although he does have a BFA in graphic design, so maybe he could help out somehow.

Again, thank you for the insight. I appreciate it.

Attend a fair or apply directly?

Has anyone had much success applying directly to schools and not through a fair?

Very valid point. My wife is a wonderful teacher, and you're absolutely right that she is marketable by herself. I just hope that she doesn't get overlooked because of me. Any school would be lucky to have such a dedicated teacher. Thank you for your input.

Thank you for your input. Honestly, I am willing to work for peanuts just so we can have the experience. I work online, and will still be making a salary. If we were to get offered one of the destinations we were really hoping for, I would do it for free. At the end of the day I just don't want to be the reason why we couldn't live abroad.

Another non-teaching spouse question...

My wife has been teaching first grade at a title one school for 6 years. She has her ESL, Math, and Reading endorsements. I have a BFA in Graphic Design and have been working as a designer for a couple of years. As I have read many of the previous posts, I understand that we are at a real disadvantage because I am not a teacher.

However, I am yet to see a well built website for any of these schools. Does anyone think it would help our chances that I could build the school a great website, and even help with advertising and marketing?
Thanks,

Brett
