Re: Selling Out for the Money

Just from my own perspecitve, I have noticed that each year I get older, I find that I can live on less and less money. 100 bucks can last me a lot longer in my 40's compared to when i was in my early 30's.. Im in the same boat..want to find a school that will allow me the most enjoyment of working with good kids and positive behavior coupled with the highest salary I can make.. as a teacher with only 2 years experience in he US.. I will be looking at tax free salaries and most probably the Middle East due to my inexperience

Applying Directly to Schools for a newbie

I have jumped into the foray rather late, but will give it a shot to find a job internationally for 2014-2015. My credentials are special ed. certified k-12 and have worked one and a half years in the US as a special ed teacher. My job requires me to co-teach inclusive Language Arts and Math classes in 6th grade. I added on a certification for middle school Language arts at the end of my first year of teaching. On my applications that Im going to fill out can I state that Im teaching Language Arts and Math if I'm not the teacher of record but I do co teach every day within the classroom? By the end of April I hope to have become certified in Middle School Social Studies as well. Im not going to join Search or any other organization as it is so late and am not going to attend any fairs. What are the best countries or regions that I may have a shot in and is my only shot as a special education teacher or do i have any cahnce at teaching Language Arts? I realy would like to teach in SE asia but I'm still looking to save at least 12-15,000 usd after my first year of teaching internationally.

American Teachers in British Schools and other questions

Im currently teaching special education in the United States and have been looking at job openings overseas and notice many more opportunities at British style international schools. With just two years experience as a teacher in the US is it realistic to apply at these schools? I have no IB experience and was curious if anyone has noticed many American teachers working at British internatonal schools. I have two certificates: special education and Middle School language arts... have not signed up for SA or ISS at the moment and thinking I should have jumped the ball much earlier. As a teacher with two years experience does waiting for one more year make me any more attractive as a candidate? Do many Middle East countries have special education opportunities?

DC Girl.. What would be your suggestions for a person in my situation who has a certification in SPEDK-12 with two years experience at the end of this academic year and a certification to teach English/Language Arts at the middle school level? Is it two early for me to be a legitimate candidate for an international job? If not what would my next step be? join Search or send out resumes to schools that have SPED programs?.. any help is appreciated..

Im a second year special education teacher...in the United States. hopefully biding my time of working one more whole year before I start trying to get an international teaching job as a SPED teacher.. I would really like to hear any SPED teachers hiring experience on the international stage.. were there any expectations, when hired, to become certified in other subjects? At the big fairs was there a lot of teachers applying for SPED jobs? Any input is appreciated... Hope this post goes along with the OP as I'm not trying to hijack said thread

Thanks for all of the replies.... I think that I'm going to start applying as soon as possible. Will look at areas discussed above and perhaps join Search ..not sure If my resume will be all that great to just to apply to schools directly... I really want to continue teaching special education.. For those who are teaching overseas--- What are the differences you have noticed about teaching if you are from the US originally and overseas? Thanks again for the replies they are helpful

I actually eat an Asian diet currently... been to Asia before several times and prefer local food compared to Western food. All I need mainly is access to a gym, internet, a decent sized city, havent had a drink of alcohol in over 12 years, some window shopping areas and public park type stuff and Im good... Thats why I'm looking overseas as the money you quoted is more than my take home pay as a teacher in North Carolina where Masters Pay has been cut as of May 2014, there has been no pay increase for teachers in over four years and the new governor who agreed to a continual freeze on raises and disqualification of MA pay is only in his 2nd year of his 4 year term. I'm 46 years old and need to put some cash in the bank... I plan on travelling to Asia for my vacations from school If I ever get a good enough offer to save 12,000+ a year... Hoping that a school would give me a look after one more year of service in the US

At these starter schools, Is it possible to save at least 12,000 USD a year? Even here in America, I save 8000 a year. I dont have many vices at all.
