Whether a classroom is teacher or student centred does not depend on whether it is IB or A'level. Neither dictates how to teach the subject.

Also I don't think the way IB assesses is very different from the way A'levels assess, at least not in science. Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought it was quite similar. I would compare A'levels to doing HL certificates in IB.

International School of Manila

So what's it like to work there? Is it very stressful? And what's the pollution like where the school is?
When I was sent my contract, it turns out it was signed by the HOS even before our interview, so it's clear he fully trusts his principals and just wanted to make sure I wasn't Captain Underpants!
So funny!

Thank you. It would be 2 people working at the school if we went there.

This information helps a lot.

Wow, that's interesting to know, though I wouldn't really have worried about that for Thailand or any place that the medical facilities were good. But yes, being put in a coma is a different thing all together, not something I would have thought about.

Can 2 people without kids save on the salary they offer?

What are bills like? Water, electricity?

I am in a school which pays very well at the moment so it is sometimes hard for me to figure out if a salary is good or not. They all look kinda small, but Thailand is cheaper than where I am now so thanks for reminding me of that.
A tier 2 school is exactly what I am looking for so I will go for it.

Captain Underpants! I love it. Whenever I think of that scenario it makes me smile.

I teach DP and would probably end up teaching some MYP to the higher grades. That is why I am interested in how it affects the DP kids. Seems like I would have even more work to do with them if they come from a MYP background, at least initially.

I appreciate that it could be a good thing though, (apart from lots of paper work?), if i taught the kids in MYP then I could make sure to cover what they needed to know for my subject. I guess that depends on if the sciences are taught separately or combined in that particular school.

I think I'll start applying and see what comes of it.

The salary seems low to me for 8 years experience. The housing seems low too.

Was the person you spoke to at the workshop okay with the school?

The Regents School, Bangkok

Any information on this school?

I know it isn't top tier which is fine by me but is it an okay place to be? Are the teachers happy?

It isn't with Search so haven't been able to find the salary scale. Does anyone have any idea about pay and benefits?

Any other thoughts on MYP? I have been looking at schools which do this program for next year and am not sure whether to apply or not. A friend told me that the teachers at his MYP school taught the kids a lot of 'fluff' and when the students got to IBDP they have really struggled.

Would MYP being in a school make you not apply for a job there? What is the workload like?

How are things going to change with the new curriculum?

Thanks for any information.

The housing in both schools can be a hit or miss.

At ASD, the housing is usually okay. They have some which are close to the school and so very convenient. It is great if you are given that. However, they also give housing out in Motor City which is a long drive away so you spend ages commuting. The apartments in Motor City are nice though.

A friend at ACS says that some of the housing is very nice and some horrible. The new teachers get the worst housing and each year you can apply to move so you could end up in somewhere very nice the next year. It just depends on who leaves and what new housing the school gets.
