I do not work at the school. The salary/benefits package is at the very least adequate, more likely you could consider it good. The cost of living is now average, though 4 years ago it was cheap. The current rate of about 7 Rand to the dollar was close to 14 a few years ago. It has been stable at 7 for over a year now.

There is a lot to do in Joburg. Just depends on finding what you want. It is a big city and has everything

Re: AIS Johannasburg
Does anyone have any info on AIS Johannasburg South Africa? Any safety concerns? THanks!
Like any big city that I have lived in, there are good and bad areas. The places where expats go and do things are generally as safe as any big city in the world or as unsafe. Reasonable caution goes a long way. The school has a good rep, but the current director is leaving, so who knows? The bulk of the people that work here like it and stay for a while. South Africa itself is a great place.

Dr. Arbour

Don't trust him. He will smile etc, but the knife is ready to be plunged into your back

The school is moving to a purpose built facilty and it will be quite nice. Many ESL students, about half. You can live well on the salary.

I lived in Lesotho for three years. The school is small and friendly and low key. Lesotho has crime but it is not the big deal others have made it out to be. Most people that live there like it. The easy access to South Africa makes all the difference.

It is a good place and you would probably like it.
