I get the intent—strengthening national identity and language—but I wonder if it might backfire in the short term. Requiring B1 Estonian could seriously shrink the candidate pool, especially for smaller international schools that already struggle to recruit qualified teachers.
Also, learning Estonian isn’t exactly something you do casually—it's not the most accessible language. I can see schools outside Tallinn feeling the pinch more, especially if they can’t offer the same salary or support for language learning.
I’m curious if this might create a precedent for similar rules in Latvia or Lithuania. Still, unless there’s serious funding or a phase-in plan with language support, I think this could hurt more than help, at least initially.
