Well, I may be a sample size of one (or two), but my husband and I were denied jobs at a low-tier Balkan-area school because we had no IB experience. Of course, that could be just the excuse he used because he didn't like something else about us (we did interview-- just not meant to be I guess), but it was a point for him to use as an excuse. Also, most job descriptions at IB schools I've seen list IB experience as a prerequisite.

Just for fun: City comparisons (US centric)

Yesterday my husband said "Chiang Mai is like the Austin* of Thailand." I thought this was a great comparison. What else you got?

*Austin of legend, from the 90s. Not the corporatized version it's become.

Re: Where have people done online Master in Education and Leadership.

I just finished a Master's in International Education Leadership at Northern Arizona University, completely online (I live on the other side of the US). It cost roughly $1800 per class, which was doable one class at a time. I really enjoyed most of the classes, but there's one professor who's insanely difficult on many levels (as a teacher and as a person... he has a 1.2 rating on ratemyprofessors.com)... I suffered him twice but learned how far I can stretch myself, so I definitely learned something.

I recommend the program. I actually liked it, as opposed to just getting through it.

I’m currently sitting in a school shooting training. Watching my “Exodus” countdown app, trying to calm my headache. Wherever you are, stay there.

Resume website or creative CVs: helpful or harmful?

For any of you who have ever been in a position to hire: what is your opinion on creative resumes, like a classy infographic? (Example here... really wish I could hyperlink: https://masterbundles.com/wp-content/up ... oad-90.jpg)

What about a resume website (in addition to the paper one of course)? https://business.tutsplus.com/articles/ ... -cms-25761

I am a visually creative teacher (science, not art) and these approaches represent my style very well. I'd also love to create a short video about my teaching style and classroom culture. It probably depends on the eye of the beholder, but in general, are these viewed as obnoxious or helpful?

Also, your thoughts on photos on resumes? I've read that they're abhorred in the US/Can/UK, but encouraged in Europe and Asia.

Thanks for your input.

Re: Looking for virtual exchange participants

Hi all! My students have finished their contribution to this project. It's a 5-min video. The instructions for participation are in the description under the video. I hope it's okay to post this here. It "outs" my location, even though I'm not in it at all. I'll take that risk since I have no plans to post anything controversial.

I'm hoping to have all videos uploaded by December, and I have a participant who would like to do a separate series of videos showing how we all celebrate holidays. Without further ado... Enjoy!

Looking for virtual exchange participants

My students (here in the US) are doing a virtual exchange. Basically, they're making a "day in the life of an American teenager" video, and they want to find kids around the world to send back their versions. I am hoping to have a finished video to send out by next week, and all videos have to be exchanged by the end of November. We've gotten one from Tanzania, and my students are enthralled!

If you are interested (or have a teacher in your school who would be), please PM me and I'll give you my email address. It's easy enough to do without outing your identity.

One thing you can offer students as an incentive is that they can use this on their college applications. I give them full permission to take credit for the idea.

Thanks in advance!
