HEL - PE Teacher seeks Leadership step

Hello,

I am a PE teacher with over 12 years of experience working in IE. 2 years in Malaysia, 1 year in Cambodia 6 years in China and 4 in India. Mix of IB, UK curriculum and national schools. I have a masters in physical education.

I want to move into an athletic director role and am looking for a direction in regards to making myself more marketable and pursuing an advanced degree as an athletic director, sports director or HOD. I already have a certificate from Oxford for leadership that was a 2 month long course.

My question are:

1) Do you know of any advanced degree leadership programs ( Masters or certificate ) program that I can enroll in that would help Improve my marketability? Looking to do this online.

2) Are you or you know anyone out there that is an AD that simply moved up into a position based upon years of experience and general timing of needing to be hired?

Any help would be great.

Re: Tuition Paid Out of Pocket

AUS in Kuwait will pay for three children. At least that is what it was a few years ago. Most schools will at least provide 50% for the second child. Jump on Search Associates and it will tell you specifically. This would negate really asking anyone on here although helpful, you'd be best served checking it out there and then asking specifically seeking out information about the actual school and how it rates. So yeah, sign up for Search Associates.

Re: Teaching in Indonesia without a bachelor's degree

I just wanted to add on a professional level really assessing whether it may be of a greater financial benefit to just start your bachelors either do it accelerated or working on it to get it done quickly.. why?

Money! The financial benefit that you will get from having your bachelors/masters as opposed to a certification will be worth it for you. So instead of bouncing around working at a language school or hoping one of these international schools even gets you in the door, already you are seen as a lesser qualified candidate even with many many many years of experience.

I think actually asking yourself is this my actual career... if so... I would take the time to do your bachelors if you have the energy for it.... if you don't and simply want to continue on the road... go for it... financially you will not benefit as much... if your goal is just some years of adventure... OKKKKK but you will kick yourself if you continue down this road....

Stability wise, earnings wise, school options wise, benefits wise, housing wise and confidence wise as being degreed and competitive with others, you will win out more in the end... take a careful think about this. if you want to connect privately I am open to help.

Public School Vs. International - Culture Shock

I worked abroad for more than ten years. I mainly worked at 1-2 tier schools with students who were well behaved ( for the most part) and were for the most part university bound. The pandemic struck and I went back home to the US working at a public school. There are some good kids and then theres many-many students that unfortunately for a variety of reasons cause a ruckus.

Will you ever go back to working in a public school? Has anyone experienced the shock of going back to a public school and then realizing, " WHOA" and headed back abroad? Or has anyone settled back into a public school and remain?

For me, I find days where I miss the inquiry based learning of very driven students who would take me to great heights as a teacher. Often times in a public schools, I find that I am reaching for any little bit of reward.

Your thoughts?

Search Associates Salary Scale

Please help make sense the Search Associates as I have no idea what Search Associates is trying to say.

The school lists the following:

Teachers with a BA and 4 years
$38000

Teachers with a MA and 8 years
$47000

What does this mean? Does this mean that Masters with 8 years experience starts at 47000? Does this mean that 47K is the ceiling? Does it mean that if you have 8 years its 47K.. and beyond that is probably a 2% increase per year. Please help me understand the Search Associates salary scale.

Thank you.

Re: When does the line in the sand get crossed

There is no positive outcome to being part of a workplace WhatsApp/ Text messaging group. Unless its admin protected with no possibility to respond!!!! I repeat, no positive outcome! I am starting to feel that company run WhatsApp groups that go beyond the onboarding phase are unprofessional.

It always starts off simple with questions and some type of positivity; however as the school year proceeds DOWN, people ( teachers) start to show their true " texting personality" and often not questions that appear as questions are rather hostile.... directed towards another teacher but usually at some HR rep or admin ...... about some gripe......

I strongly advise everyone to leave WhatsApp groups, it is a breach of personal/professional space. Currently, I work two jobs and both groups have WhatsApp groups and on the same day both groups sent messages at 7PM at night discussing issues/problems. On that day, I made the decision to leave. It was an unneccesary stress and invasion of privacy time... personal time..........And frankly, everything I need to know I have asked someone in the group to inform me if its 100% necessary. More often than not that information is detailed through email.

Search Associates Salary Confusion

I am a member of search and I am confused by how the salary is posted online. Here's what I mean. Your help is welcome.

Teachers with a BA and 4 years
$39000

Teachers with a MA and 8 years
$46000

Is this the Minimum (39K) to the Max (46K)? Does it start at 46K for someone with 8 years of experience? What if I have ten years of experience? Can I ask for 60k? Can someone help me figure this out so that when it comes down to negotiating I know what I am doing. Thank you.

What type of bonus are you referring to? How much if money? Is a sign on bonus a standard thing to ask for?

Thank you all for a response but I am seeking an actual number to start from and end from. What should I be getting for an actual salary per year? Thank you.

Salary Expectations 10 years experience Middle East

I've become skeptical about the offers that I've gotten and I negotiating is something that I try to do. Question. What is the salary range for someone like me with 10 years experience at say a top tier or second tier school in the Middle East. Dubai/Abu Dhabi/Kuwait even maybe Jordan. What should I be NEGOTIATING for per year, per month.
