You are referring to Gaza, which is only 6% of Palestine's territory.
While the internet in Gaza is indeed a lot less reliable nowadays because Israel has taken down networks there to aid their invasion -internet cables into Gaza run through Israel-, in the remaining 94% of Palestine you will have normal internet access.

Re: Correction

I have two family members currently in Palestine, and just like Pakistan it also has reliable and widely available internet.
I did a video chat with one of them recently. I received a PayPal transfer from the other one around two or three weeks ago to reimburse me for something I shipped to him. I have received PayPal payments from him in 2022 and 2023.
Not sure if they used a VPN or not tho, but it works.
Reliability of the network in Gaza is a lot less nowadays -for obvious reasons-, but luckily they are on the West Bank.

Using Paypal from North Korea is likely impossible, unless you get chummy with the DPRK leadership.

But some good coffee is always a good idea - I can't imagine starting the day without it.

Re: Reply

When you do or do not receive an offer you never know what role your dependents played in that decision so that remark of yours has little relevance.
All you can do is look at how many teachers with two dependent kiddos they hired the most recent recruitment rounds.
So through her extensive network she asked actual teachers at those schools how often the schools give those two spots based on their experience at their school. She asked about likely scenarios and not outliers. That is how she arrived at her number.

Re: GRC now for profit?

Still free for teachers.
I read that the person who started GRC -Craig Johnson- isn't head at AS Bombay anymore, so can't run it anymore from there as he was before.
Maybe the member schools just came up with Global Recruitment Private Limited to have that entity run it instead of being dependent on a specific school.

Re: Reply

My colleague who did her research had -almost- all of tier 1 schools on her list and didn't use search associates profiles and arrived at 80 percent. So if @helio arrived at 83 percent then those profiles do mean something.

GRC now for profit?

Heard GRC is now operated + managed by Global Recruitment Private Limited, and no longer by the schools that use the service for recruitment themselves, with AS Bombay doing most of the work.
Did they merely outsource the work, or is it now fully for profit like Search Associates?

Yep, that lines up with what I've heard from a colleague (with 2 kids + trailing spouse) who's planning to move on after this year and made a list of all schools she wants to work at and then checked if they'll provide two waivers for her kiddos. She found that 80 percent of the schools on her list does.

Re: Staff Representative / Communications

We had a faculty rep at a previous school whose suggestions sometimes impacted policy, but when the new Head arrived that changed completely and their advice was largely ignored and it was clear the new Head saw it as undeserved criticism when the faculty rep spoke out against new policies. Where I'm now we don't have a faculty rep but teachers are able and sometimes explicitly asked to voice their opinion and they do impact policy.

Re: Gender and Management Style

I've found that in one-on-one situations the female leaders were better at interacting with staff, but where it comes to overall decision-making there's not a huge difference.
I know some female teachers that do strongly prefer to work for a female Head though, so whether or not you notice a difference between male and female admin in terms of their management styles may very well depend on your own gender.

Re: DP experience > MYP ?

@Heliotrope
It is no longer on the list because of the taxations of benefits and the weakened yen. I love Tokyo and the school seems truly excellent but unfortunately I have financial obligations that I need to meet and that wouldn't be possible there.

Your 91% sounds closer than my 8 out of 10 to be honest
Now that a certain American school in Japan is no longer on the current list of my top 10 dream schools, all of them have DP and 4 also have MYP, so that matches up neatly with your 41%.

I was expecting to read a topic about the future of our profession. Disappointing.
Good luck though!

Re: Situation in Peru

The only teacher in Peru that I know still goes surfing whenever he can and seems unbothered.
Expats are rarely targeted if there is unrest anywhere in the world, unless they are used as scapegoats which is not happening in Peru. If you keep your distance then not much will change except if utilities or supply chains are disrupted. Currency and cost of living could be affected and therefore your savings.
My cousin visiting Peru as a tourist was trapped near Machu Picchu for a while because train service was and possibly still is disrupted.

DP is more instrumental to getting into a tier 1 school simply because 8 out of 10 of the tier 1 schools have DP while less than half of the tier 1 schools have MYP. Also true for the other tiers.
But if you are eying a particular school that has MYP + DP and your MYP experience is very solid backed up by references, then that MYP experience will do more for you than similarly good DP experience because MYP is harder to do right than DP. I have seen many confidential references of MYP teachers that were underwhelming. Best is having both of course. Just my experience though.

Prior IB experience was also necessary to get visa for non-EU teachers where I used to teach. Also in Europe. Not just at my school but at all int schools in the country.
