Re: Beginning Of The End for China Foreign Teachers?

It sounds like Fangpiren has already undergone his 20 hours of brainwashing. This is China's goal, to indoctrinate all foreign teachers so that they not only believe the lies, but they spread them to others. Luckily, this only works on weak minded people.

Re: Beginning Of The End for China Foreign Teachers?

China cares more about control than coin. Look at what happened in HK. They sacrificed a lot of coin for more control. As the article states, China will continue to regulate international schools to such a restricted degree that they will either turn Chinese or close. I wouldn't be surprised if they...

Re: and it continues

When considering where China's values lie, all one has to do is look at the person on their paper currency, a man who killed more people than Hitler. The fact that China is responsible for the largest mass murder in the world is not up for debate. Neither is the fact that they continue to commit gen...

Re: and it continues

@fangpiren There are millions of Uyghur people in concentration camps in China being tortured, sterilized, and forced to work that would disagree with you. There are millions of people in HK that have suddenly lost their freedom of speech that would also disagree with you. India, and a host of other...

Re: and it continues

China is looking a lot like Germany in the 1930's right now. The cold war between China and the USA is heating up fast and there is no telling what China might do next. I would not want to be an American in China (or even a European, since they're often mistaken for Americans).

2020 Income Taxes USA

We've been back in the USA since January 2020 due to Covid. Since we would no longer pass the 30 days or less in the USA per year rule, would that mean we would have to pay income tax on our salary? The company/school we work for is a non profit registered outside of the USA and they pay our Chinese...

Re: Malaria

I knew two colleagues that lived in areas prone to Malaria. One described long lasting negative effects such as hormonal issues and fatigue. The other had serious neurological issues that put him the hospital for months.

I've known others who took the meds short term who had no serious issues.

Re: My post is gone?

I reported a post from 3jobsperyear to the admin because I thought he was being a troll and encouraging unethical behavior. I didn't mean for the entire post to get taken down.

Re: So, if the border isn't open...

@t_rock Our school pays us in USD, so China devaluing it's currency would be a benefit. It happened to me once before. A country I lived in devalued it's currency by almost 50% due to low oil prices. Everything suddenly became dirt cheap. I lived like a king. A colleague of mine went out and bought ...

Re: So, if the border isn't open...

The Beijinger, a Chinese news source, had a recent article stating that China won't be resuming most international flights until at least October. In addition, I've from a few reliable sources that foreigners will not be allowed back in to China until late fall/early winter 2020. China is likely wai...

Re: Staying for the Summer, or flying home for a visit?

We went back home in January for CNY and have been doing online instruction ever since. I'm glad we did because where we live had few cases and never really went into lock down. Now everything has already reopened. Conversely, I know a few teachers that stayed and are now having to go back to work, ...

Re: Seems like schools hold all the cards at this point...

@Nexttrip I apologize, I was a bit harsh with my response. For what it's worth, I have it on good authority that my school will keep all current staff employed for the start of next school year, even if China remains closed in the fall. I work for a large school with a healthy budget and a leader th...

Re: Seems like schools hold all the cards at this point...

This is a strange thread. OP seems to be asking permission to act. There are no rules. Do what you what you need to do to secure a job. If you're transferring to a new school, you could be applying to other jobs without your new school's knowledge. It's not like you'd use your new school as a refere...
