Re: Renewing contact- can I negotiate fewer hours?

We have many people at our school in China that work less than full time. The only job that this wouldn't be suited for at our school is a homeroom teacher in elementary. But EAL, Learning Support, PE, Art and others all have some people employed at less than full time. The bigger the school the more likely this could be needed.

SAS Pudong

What is SAS Pudong like for kids with slight learning needs? Kids who might need a bit of support but don't have full blown issues in lots of different areas.

Saying No Politely

I'm new to the job search process. If I get an interview offer from a school that I don't want to go to, how do I politely say no?

Re: Doubling up on Recruitment agencies

@GrumblesMcGee

"One could interpret this behavior from Search as a sign they're desperately trying to hold onto their market share and wary of anything (off-platform communciation, candidates listed with multiple agencies) that could lead to them either losing your commission or incentivizing schools/candidates to leave Search in the near future (i.e. "I used Search, but was perfectly capable of communicating with said school/candidate through other means, so next cycle I won't use Search."). Basically, they're trying to make themselves seem essential in the face of competition. But I'll concede that, while my interpretation intuitive feels right, I lack the data to state it with a high degree of certainty."

I think this is really at the heart of the issue. I sense some insecurity from Search this time around that I did not feel before. I think they are realizing that they are not the only show in town but they are trying to hold on as if they were. Your thoughts have made me feel a bit indignant towards the process again - cc'ing them on private communication for something I accessed on ISS? I agree that that just isn't right.

Re: Doubling up on Recruitment agencies

@sid
Great response. I laughed when you referred to the CD Rom. You make some good points about your associate getting to know you better via being cc'd in. I can shift my thinking about that. Maybe it's just this specific associate compared to the one I had a few years ago that I think retired. It just seemed that there was this over promotion of Search as an agency and him as the key to it all. With requesting me to change my communication, I just felt like he was trying to assert a lot of control over the process, too. Obviously this is not the model at all for ISS and GRC. Since I teach an in-demand subject, I wish that I had just gone with ISS and GRC for my next round. But I've paid my cash so I'll just have to roll with it this time around. Thanks for helping me to see it in a different way.

Re: Doubling up on Recruitment agencies

@sid - I don't have any issues with him being cc'd if I apply to something within Search but I feel like if I am applying to a job from a school that is on ISS or GRC and not on Search, I don't know why I would still need to cc him. I know my previous associate didn't ask me to reword emails to schools and over promote Search but this one has - twice this recruiting season. I just find it a little overbearing. Also, I know that Search is falling out of favor with some schools because of their high fees and I'm not sure why Search would deserve a cut if a school accesses my information only through ISS. I will keep my word but I feel that as the landscape of recruitment options change, this is something that shouldn't be set in stone.

Re: Doubling up on Recruitment agencies

My search associate seems adamant that I cc him on any emails I send to schools outside of the Search website. I joined ISS and GRC. What is the protocol for applying/communicating with schools from within Search vs. ISS vs. GRC if a specific school is on all 3 platforms?

GRC Reference

My wife and I have signed up with ISS and GRC. Because of a glitch in the system, she was able to see all of her references in GRC. She saw that one of her references gave her a "Good hire, give me a call" response instead of the one that says she is endorsed without reservation. This surprised her because 1, In 10 years of working for this man, he never once gave her any negative feedback, including for yearly performance reviews and 2, he expressed nothing but support in our job search, even offering to reach out to contacts on her behalf. She was under the impression that she has his full support.

So how damaging is it to get a "Good hire, give me a call" response on GRC?

Obviously we don't know what he said on ISS but we hope that because there is more of a chance to elaborate on the ISS reference form, there would at least be some positive things said, along with whatever his issue with her is.

Should my wife reach out to this reference (indirectly, of course) to find out what the issue is?

Has anyone else become aware of a less than great reference but still had a successful job search?

Thanks for any feedback.
