Can I force Majeure?

Can someone please explain if force Majeure is claimed... what that means for the school and the teacher? Will the teacher be given vacation pay or any prorated bonus? Will they at least get money for until they did online teaching?

I don’t know when I can and should go back to China

I have been a teacher at a school in Shaanxi province for the past few years and I came back home to Canada for the winter break... however, things have changed quite dramatically over the past few weeks. All the teachers, including myself, have been doing online classes. HR said that we were supposed to be back on March 9 and anything above that would be considered unauthorized leave... however we have been teaching until now and will continue. The school says that the government will be allowing schools to open on March 30 (for graduating classes - for exams for CIE AND AP, which is another question mark because how can students do AP exams when they have to travel to HongKong and other places to write exams) and they are asking me to come back. Other schools in the city have not said anything yet. If I go now, I’d have to stay in a quarantine hotel for 14 days also I’m afraid that I won’t be able to come back home if I went, and the situation is changing rapidly every day. My government is asking all Canadians to come back to Canada ‘while we still can’ and that scares me. They are even lending money to people who need it to for travel... flight tickets have suddenly gone from ~1100cad to ~4200cad....
In this situation, I am really considering if I should go back at this time or not. I really want to finish my contract because I have done most of the work for the school year and this is the time to relax during the exam time and get my bonus. I am also wondering that if the schools open, they might just close back down in a few days... I was wondering if they should at least give me a reference letter if a situation arises that I really won’t be able to complete my school year, also If there is any chance of getting a prorated bonus in this situation... in my opinion, according to the news I have been following over the past few days is that the borders definitely will be closing soon. Please give some advice as to what should be done here.

Unionpay annual withdraw limit time frame

Hello, I was hoping if someone can clear this up for me. I know that unionpay has an annual withdrawal limit of 100,000 yuan a year but does that mean calendar year (January 1 till December 31)? Or does it mean from the time I got a unionpay card (for example I got a unionpay card in May 2019 so the limit will be from May 2019-May 2020.

Thank you.

Money transfer from China to Canada

Hello,

Can somebody please tell me if it is legal for me to leave my bank of China Unionpay bank card with my wife in Canada and I put money in it from China so she can withdraw from Canada? I know there is a 100,000 yuan annual limit. As long as I don’t cross that, is it ok?

Also, is HSBC international account a good option for me? I can see that when I go to Canada this summer, I can open up an HSBC international account in China (while in Canada).

If there are better options, I would really appreciate it if someone can help me.

Re: What is the qualified pay scale?

@psyguy

Thank you very much again for all your advices!
My school accepted the ACSI certificate and amended my contract accordingly!!
Again, thanks so much! Honestly.

On another note, since I have been able to buy myself some time now with the ACSI certificate, I don't think, and I think you would concur that this option is not viable long term? I sent my transcripts to World Education Services some time ago and the they have just sent the email today that they have completed the report.

I am new to the career and my background/ education is in Chemical Engineering, but I don't mind teaching. I had never thought I'd be in teaching but I was at the beginning of my engineering career and had been laid-off, after which I was having a hard time finding a job. So long story short, after some time I applied for a teaching position in China.

I have some good experience in teaching and now I am wondering what my next steps should be in regards to certification and education. I think I will be applying to go to Saudi Arabia next after working another year in China (total 3 years in China) and I would like to have some necessary credentials and education before I make this move. Also, I am Canadian so I would be trying to find a job in Canada as well, both in teaching and engineering.

I don't particularly want to go back to school full-time as this would, I feel, be a bit counter-productive because I am trying to make/save money at the end of the day and going back to school means not only paying for school but letting go of my earning for a year.

Is there a way to get the Canadian credentials through first gaining US credentials without going to school full-time (few months is ok I guess).I am open to online programs.

I have already applied and gotten a MEPID number and temporary ID number for the MS credential but still haven't booked the MTEL test yet because I'm wondering if you could please advice me first if this is the best option for me currently. I think I understand that this would essentially be the cheapest option if I were to work in KSA? But I don't know if this would allow me some backdoors for a Canadian credentials.

I am also thinking of pursuing a masters degree the meantime if that would help me in KSA. Would you have some advice on that? I still have feelings for engineering so I was also considering a masters in engineering, would that help with applications in KSA (Although I understand this would require me to go back to school full-time probably, but I feel like if I were to go back to school full-time, I might as well do it in engineering and this may even allow me to try my luck in the engineering field again? (I'm a bit conflicted) Also, if I were to move into University teaching, a masters in engineering would definitely help more as compared to a masters in education?

So in summary, My options are:
*Obtain MS Provisional + Online Masters in Education, go to KSA and work as a teacher

*Go back to Engineering school for a year and try to get a teaching job in a school or preferably university in KSA (probably better working conditions than a school), Also perhaps obtain an online masters in education if it helps with that process.

*Obtain another US/UK credential that may possibly allow me a Canadian credential backdoor option as well, and work in KSA until maybe I can work in Canada as a teacher.

*Go back to Engineering school for a year, try my luck working as an engineer in Canada

Could you please give me some advice. I know this sounds a bit like I am asking for life advices but I'm just a little conflicted but I need to be making moves.

Thank you so much for taking the time in reading this confusing and lengthy post.

Re: What is the qualified pay scale?

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it. Are they going to ask me and is it going to be any issue if I am not an American citizen if I want to get the MEPID?

Does anybody know anything about this?

Re: What is the qualified pay scale?

@ psyguy

I have a Canadian degree... is that going to work for ACSI? Also, I'm not Christian, is that going to be a problem?

P.S. They agreed that both of these certificates will be accepted! Thank you so much for the information you have provided me

Re: What is the qualified pay scale?

@psyguy

My holidays start from July 9 and I need to get a credential, (and probably get them authenticated, school hasn't said anything about that yet) by August 18 for any increment to take place. I have looked at tests for MTEL around China but there is nothing. The earliest test I can get is July 17 in Ohio. I think I probably would also need to get a Hard copy of the document and get it authenticated and stuff... It looks like I might be short on time.

Are there any other ways for me to get a certificate, as temporary as it needs to be so that I can do a praxis exam instead which I can get done sooner? But then I might also have to partake a background check which would take time too...?

Im really confused. please help.

Re: What is the qualified pay scale?

They are asking for me to give them website of the license issuing body or a example of a license. When I apply for the license online, when can I get a proper copy of the license? Maybe they don't just want an unofficial copy of the license for MA. What is the procedure for getting the hard copy?

Also, for the ACSI, how do i get the hard copy?

They said:
Hi Hassan,

Thanks for your email.
Could you please send me the website of authority or a sample of the teaching license?

Thanks,
Hassan
