Doing another degree would be an option, but why would I start from scratch when the University of Essex offers these PG Certificates?
Plus it would take 3 years to do everything anew and it would cost a fortune.

Thank you. A DET programme would be ideal, but they all get back to me saying "we are not in charge of your supervised teaching experience".
https://www.lsib.co.uk/course-details.a ... rd=Diploma
This programme is ideal, but they were telling me to sort the experience side out on my own. So, obviously one needs to be working at a school that uses the British curriculum in order to do this.

"though some DSs may pay you at

The MA entry grade credential is the Massachusetts one, right?

Post-degree supervised teaching practice in order to obtain QTS

Hey guys,

I hold a BA and a PGCEi (no QTS).

Is there a way to obtain the necessary supervised practice in order to be considered for QTS just in a few weeks/months as part of a simplified programme that doesn't cost a fortune?

AO routes cost around 4k pounds. That is way too much. I am currently not employed and I don't see myself obtaining a job at a school that uses the British curriculum. Getintoteaching used to have something similar, but due to cuts of gov funds they expect people to work for free now for year in order to award them QTS. That is something I can't do (mainly because I hold an EU passport and now the UK has shut the doors to EU members completely). I am not planning to study again and be part of a teacher training course. I just need the supervised teaching side of it.

Thank you.

Can a PG Certificate in Computer Science help one become an ICT teacher?

Hey guys,

I hold a BA in languages and a PGCEi (no QTS) from British universities. I'm planning to retrain and work as an ICT teacher?

Would a PG Certificate in Computer Science from the University of Essex (lvl 7) help me achieve that?

My understanding is that it would, but I guess most of you have a better understanding of the market than I do.

I am planning to work at an international school (since I won't be able to apply to public schools without the QTS). However, one drawback is that it might be a competitive market. I would need to work for 2 years minimum (after obtaining such certificate) before anyone would take me seriously. I have 11 years of ESL experience, but that might not be good for them. I assume most international schools would ask for 2 years of post-qualification experience.

Anyway, what do you guys think? What pros/cons obtaining such a certificate might present?

Thank you.

Hey.Thank you for the information.

None of the routes can be taken by someone like me. I hold an EU passport and I am based in Europe. All the above-mentioned licenses are for those who are planning to teach in the USA or based there. US boards won't help anyone who is just simply trying to "use" them.

The certificate is what you earn if you do the TeachNow course and the rest is up to you. You apply to the Board of Educators (they recommend the DC one) and you either get the teaching license or you don't. At least that was the information I was given back when I was shopping for a postgraduate course.

TeachNow is not an option. It basically has the same value as a PGCEi, but the PGCEi didn't lead to QTS. I'd be redoing something (partially) that I have already done. Plus TeachNow doesn't guarantee the license. Another thing is that they talk in riddle....the moment you ask them about the licensing part (then again...it is not guaranteed).

I have never heard of iTeach. I'll check them out. Thanks.

I would like to retrain or gain QTS

Hey guys,

POSTING AGAIN. MY FIRST POST HAS A SERIOUS MISTAKE IN THE TITLE.

I hold a British BA (English/Spanish) and a PGCEi.

I can't possibly teach at public schools with a PGCEi. International schools won't hire me either (simply because I did languages and nativisim is going strong now with the pandemic on).

I am not planning to go back to training centres.
So, I have 2 options:

1, I can do a course and retrain as an IT teacher. I am ditching this idea (I don't really have the money to go back to school, pay the tuition fees..etc.)
Getintoteaching should have been an option, but due to Brexit and gov cuts.....that just won't happen.

2, I find a salaried (primary or secondary) teacher training provider somewhere.

Now, has anyone done anything similar in an English-speaking country? I know that I can't do this in England. I have also tried to apply in Canada, but they are making it impossible. Their problem is that my PGCEi didn't have a practicum side. Now they are expecting me to enrol on a Canadian course that costs 8k CAD (I don't really have that money....but I assume I can get it somehow once things go back to normal).
So, I would probably do it, but they are asking for things that I can't provide (experience from a Canadian public school....which is hard to get if I can only get a tourist visa and that won't allow me to volunteer).

Let me update my earlier comment:

Just finished my first fair with them. As I was saying stay away from them if you are a non-native English teacher (even if you are highly-qualified. Passports matter more). They can't help you and what others have mentioned is true too (they wont support you properly). It is all about access to what is already out there. If you want the luxury of having everything right in front of you, then go for it....but even that wont guarantee a job offer. So...do the maths...is it worth paying 250 CAD for that?

By the way, how do I spin the 5 courses of UPe into a minor? Their agent is just clueless as to how to do so.

Thank you.

Thank you. How do I spin that into a minor in maths though?

UPDATE: Wait..never mind. Just found one of your old responses.

"If your interested in course material than taking courses from UPe will get you actual Uni credits and with your PGCEi you could transfer enough credits/units you could complete the Masters at less cost than the ABCTE program is, and a Masters has more value and utility than a ABCTE certificate. A nice sequence of math inspired courses might be:
- Instructional Techniques for the Elementary and Middle School Classroom
- Instructional Techniques for the Secondary School Classroom
- Advanced Practices for Teaching the STEM Fields at the Elementary and Middle School Levels
- Advanced Practices for Teaching the STEM Fields at the Secondary Level Levels"

I will look into these bullet points. There is one thing I dont understand though...so, using the sequence mentioned above would give me enough credit to earn an MA in maths, but through which institute?

Thank you PsyGuy.

I used to be good at it (I kind of enjoyed it). Plus, I am done teaching languages (due to the elitist approach of "your-passport-matters-more-than-anything").

Last year I decided to sit the PRAXIS exams and I really enjoyed the maths preparation courses online. I disliked the rest, but the maths problems kept it interesting. Obviously, there is a chance that I might not like it, but it is one I am willing to take.

Re-training as a maths teacher with a BA (language studies) and a PGCEi

Hey guys,

I have been considering the option of becoming a subject teacher. What online courses would international schools take seriously?

I have a BA (English-Spanish) and a PGCEi. I just dont know what course I could do online in order to be accepted/taken seriously by international schools.

A friend of mine has mentioned "endorsement courses", but so far I have only checked the US ones and they are super expensive (14k USD on average).

I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.
Thank you.

If you are a non-native ESL teacher: don't even try. I have a BA and a PGCEi from England and no one cares. The fairs might make a difference (never been to one...my agent didn't really bother inviting me to one when I registered and then covid19 happened).

I think it is geared towards subject teachers. A teacher who is qualified enough, can find the same jobs without SA. In my opinion, you are paying for the comfort of a database that makes it easier to apply. Keep that in mind.
