Re: Top Tier - Top Pay?

does a Tier 1 school necessarily equate to a top salary?
[/quote]

Usually, yes. There's no real other objective way to measure them.

As for your comment, "I was recently offered a job by a school I have often seen in lists of top schools on here. . .I was very surprised that the package offered was less than many other schools in the same city.". That's because admin have been known to use this site to talk up their school. Take what you read on here with a large pinch of salt.

And where I am, it even affects travel within the country. You can't take public transport without being vaccinated.

Stricter rules for the unvaccinated are being introduced around the world. In terms of travel, access to local amenities and shops, and increasingly vaccine mandates for people working in healthcare and education. As an international teacher working in China, I would imagine that you might want / need some kind of vaccination certificate that's valid both in China and around the world. Until mutual recognition kicks in, that'll probably mean getting both a 'western' vaccine and a Chinese one.

If by going through fire and water, you mean being a qualified teacher, then I guess so.

What is the LCSA, and what is a 'floater' third tier? Sounds revolting.

@sid What about 3-3-4-3. Is that much better than 2-2-2-2 ?

hypothetical teacher B may not even make it to the checking references stage.

Proving Psyguy wrong is never very hard. Getting him to admit it, however, can be quite the challenge. Good luck !

Make sure it's US/Canadian. Anything British is an old fashioned waste of space.

No, it's probably more about the country and the quality of school. I (for example) have no real wish to live in China as I value the health of my lungs. I might be coaxed over there by an exceedingly large salary. Admittedly the kind of schools that pay those kind of salaries may have no wish to employ me, but nontheless, the only schools that would take me to China would be one that offered a ridiculously generous package. (I'm probably never going to China).

It did. He may not have meant it when he typed it, but it definitely did.

On a slight tangent, I work with some fabulous teachers from Africa. No idea where they got their certification (or even if they are certified).

Re: Vaccination and other issues.

Like others, I'd be happy with 1 and 2.

3 is a red flag.

Saying that, if they went through Search Associates, they'd have access to 2 and 4 anyway.

Or because they're writing a paper on it for their doctorate . . .

104400 usd would work out as around 3700 eur per month take home.

There are some schools in Germany that would start a fully experienced teacher with a Phd on more than that.

Re: getting hired at a British school

The subjects you teach will matter, as will the popularity of the location / school.

However, yes - British schools do tend to prefer those with recent UK experience.
