Re: Final Pay at end of contract... what does your school do

I am also in Shanghai, our school had us fill out the wire transfer paperwork from the bank, and then they will submit it so that the bank will wire our money to our account back home (we have the option of being paid in USD). As far as our money that has to be paid in RMB, they will pay it all out in our June paycheck, and as you know we cannot exchange it all at the bank at once so I can exchange it at the airport or withdraw it from an ATM.

@psyguy
If you noticed I said from "my" recent experience this is what happened. I'm not saying that it is going to work in every case but this is what happened to me.

Re: African American

I totally agree with the above comment. Of course racism exists and I understand where you are coming from as far as safety. But I would say do not let who you are stop you from applying to places or limit your choices. From my experience this past summer in Europe, Italy was one place that I definitely felt that I was treated differently and harassed in the airports. However I got a job offer from an Italian school so you never know. Hope all goes well for you.

Re: Photo or no photo in CV?

I initially had a photo on mine and then took it off, I put it back on when people asked for it. I still got replies although I didn't have a picture.

Re: How long can I wait to reply to an offer?

From my recent experience one school did not set a deadline but they also had not given me a copy of the contract to look through. I responded with a thank you and told them that I would wait for them to send the contract. I told my top choice school that I had received an offer and they moved things along for me and I ended up with my first choice. You can always buy time by asking to speak or email with current employees.

Re: Teaching in Germany

thanks for the replies, I just need some general answers. When I saw the tax rates I freaked out a bit. What benefits do people get from paying the taxes in Germany?

Teaching in Germany

Good evening,

I understand that things are going to depend on your salary and your whole package, but are single teachers typically able to live well off of salaries in southern Germany? I see that the taxes are very high and I am just wondering do schools usually compensate for this. I love to travel and want to know if it is possible to do this living off of an IS salary in Germany.
