Re: Experienced EFL Teacher looking for a quick US Cert

Oh yeah, I'm definitely satisfied with the Utah certification - and am so glad you recommended it! It was a leap to try for QTS, so I'm not disappointed, it's a good reality check. This is all I need for now, and I definitely haven't lost anything, so it's a great route for anyone needing certification. The Utah DOE was so helpful and responsive to questions too.

Re: Clarification re Teaching Cert for American abroad?

I wouldn't count on using the CT initial license to get QTS. I recently went through the steps to get a Utah level 1 license (their Academic Pathway to Teaching = Praxis content exam + fingerprints sent to the US + a few other little requirements), which took about 2 months and gave me a decent-looking Professional Educator License. But then I applied for QTS and was rejected (text below). So if the Utah licence is enough for your needs, it's pretty quick and easy. But don't count on QTS, and there's no way to get to level 2 unless you're in Utah.

"Thank you for your application. Unfortunately we are unable to award you QTS. To qualify for QTS via the Overseas Trained Teacher (OTT) route you need to provide evidence that you held/hold a Level 2 License with the Utah State Office of Education. You have provided evidence that you hold Level 1 License; therefore you do not meet the required criteria. You are welcome to submit a new application to us when you are able to provide a Level 2 License."

Re: Experienced EFL Teacher looking for a quick US Cert

My QTS app rejected, so just for future reference, the Utah level 1 license is not a route to QTS. Here's the full text of their reply:

Re: Experienced EFL Teacher looking for a quick US Cert

My license just got issued today! It's taken a little under 2 months total, starting with the fingerprints taken in Dubai & sent to Utah (which were processed in less than 3 weeks although it was estimated to take 6-8), then the Praxis II with a grueling 20 day wait for results to come out, having my transcript delivered electronically, application & $40 sent in by family in the US since they don't accept online payment for the fee. I applied for QTS just now and am hoping that the license + my degree (coincidentally in Utah, in education, but did not complete the student teaching requirements because I had 2 little kids at the time so I wasn't credentialed) will help me finally get a career started... I feel so relieved!

Re: Experienced EFL Teacher looking for a quick US Cert

I've gone through all the steps of the Utah APT (passed background check & Praxis II Elementary content knowledge, sent transcripts etc..) and am waiting for the licence to be issued. For anyone who's done this, how long did it take the USBE to issue it for you after they've received everything? It's been a few days and nothing has been updated in Cactus.

I'm planning to apply for QTS since I've preferred to work in British curric schools in the middle east although I'm American.. will definitely report back about how that goes.
