Re: Placement firms for Korea

Yes. Eslcafe is better suited

However, you can't apply directly to public schools themselves, you have to either go through an agency (such as korvia) or apply to EPIK, GEPIK or SMOE, who will put you in touch with schools.

As for private schools (hagwons), you can apply directly/with an agency.

Re: International Kindergarten vs. International School

Thanks for your reply!

"What do you want to do? Do you want to be an EC (Kinder/Nursery) IT or do you want to teach year 1+ primary?"

I don't mind either since it will be my first year. I just really want the PYP experience. But eventually I would want to teach 1+ primary in the future.

"Are these 6 days shorter days?"

Yes, 3 hours + 30 saturdays throughout the year.

"You asked which would have better marketability in the future and thats school B."

Would it give me that much more marketability? Or just only slightly?

International Kindergarten vs. International School

Hello,

Newbie to the IS circuit and in need of some advice, please. I have two offers and wanting to know which experience would make me look more marketable in the future:

School A: [[International Kindergarten]]
-Age 2 through 3rd grade
-IB school
-PYP training
-I would be teaching 3 year olds
-Previous teachers have told me they have enjoyed their time there.
-Package is satisfactory for first year IS teacher
-Teaching 5 days a week

School B: [[International School]]
-Preschool through 5th
-IB school
-PYP training
-I would be teaching Preschool, Kindergarten or 1st.
-Package is satisfactory for first year IS teacher
-Teaching 6 days a week
-Previous teachers have told me to avoid

My gut tells me to sign with School A but my resume says School B...

Re: How often do good candidates come away empty handed?

Gosh, I know how you feel...
I'm trying to break into the IS teaching arena and it's tough! I have a credential but I have no IB/PYP experience...and also, no homeroom teaching experience either (I flew straight to Korea four years ago, with my credential, to teach ESL).

I sent about 40 applications out and no one has really shown any interest :( However, a school in Nagoya seems to be interested in me. It's an internship but I guess it's something! :)

Schools with only WASC accreditation

Are they also considered International Schools? Or do they also need the IB along with it?

Re: How did you get your International School career started

Hi Shadowjack! Yes, I am a certified teacher.

I graduated 2010 with a Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and came to Korea right after to teach ESL.

Currently I'm enrolled in an online program through UCLA to get my Clear Credential by March 2015.
