Re: Expired Certificate? Easiest route to certification?

He has 13 years of teching experience, and no recent college credits.

He's been out of education about 5 years, and needs to get some kind of certificate right away if possible.

He has a substitute teacher license, which he hopes will be good enough, but there's not time to pick up 8 credits (Kansas requirement) in order to get fully re-certified this recruiting cycle.

Expired Certificate? Easiest route to certification?

My friend has an expired certificate from the state of Kansas. Hasn't taught in several years, but wants to get back in the game and is going to try international teaching.

We're looking for the "easiest" state to at least get a one year initial certificate in (quickly) so that he can hit this recruiting cycle.

Any ideas? Yes, he completed a full teacher education program and was certified in KS until a few years ago. He would need to complete 8 credit hours to get recertified in Kansas and that would take too long if he wants to get recruited now.

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

"Quick and Dirty" Certificate??

I'm certified, and hired. Looking at options for next year.

My wife is working through teach now -- won't have a certificate until Summer.

The school I'm with now won't consider anyone who isn't currently certified.

I'm wondering if there would be a way for her to get an "emergency" certificate from someplace -- anyplace -- even if it's only good for a year so that she could use it for landing the job for next year, and then switching to a full certificate over the summer.

She needs it ASAP.

Someone suggested the UTAH provisional license, but that requires a Praxis. I'm looking for something fast that we can perferrably do from abroad.

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Countries to start to work late in career for a pension?

Another option to consider... QSI has full pension after 20 or 22? years of employment. It's almost 100% of your final salary too.

Not bad if you're willing to stay with one company for the lifetime of your IT experience.

Re: Parking my Certificate

I was worried by the NJ requirement that said:

"Hold valid standard certificate issued by another state and demonstrate at least two effective years of teaching within three consecutive years of the last four calendar years, as documented by letter from applicant's supervisor or appropriate district representative ".

I hadn't been teaching (just tech director), and I wanted to get everything hammered out this summer so I applied and was accepted for a 99 year license in Missouri!

I went through pretty quickly and so now I'm good. I have a master's degree and enough experience I don't have to worry about PD anymore :-) !!!

Thanks for the suggestion!!

Parking my Certificate

I just renewed my Kansas teaching certificate for 5 years.

I plan on teaching overseas long term and would like to move/park my license someplace where I won't have to worry about PD.

I don't think I can do New Jersey because I'm basically a full time tech director now and haven't taught 2 out of the past 3 years.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Re: 30 applications, 0 interviews

I'm no expert on timelines, but I think it's still way early.

Can someone else verify typical timelines?

Last year I emailed schools through November and December and then interviewed in Jan and Feb.

A lot of them are probably also waiting to see how many positions they can fill at upcoming fairs.

Hang in there... good luck!

Re: Getting a job

Hey everyone... first post.

I just wanted to chime in also. Last year I used tie and applied for jobs with about 10 schools. I had 4 interviews and two offers. For personal reasons, the timing wasn't right and I declined both offers, but just for the record, I have a non-teaching spouse and THREE children.

One of the offers would have flown my entire family and paid tuition for all three of my children, so it can be done.

As another poster said, you won't know until you try :-)

Good luck.
