Re: Asia to Europe

I started international teaching in Asia. It seemed back then everyone wanted to work in Europe. Now after many years, I see the pros and cons of both worlds. You may find it shocking that the pollution in the Western European country I was in was worse than in the Chinese city I taught at. It wasn't more ethical either. Even with additional taxes, the pay in Asia is much better than in Europe. And after returning to Asia, I was disappointed with the quality of the students after having Chinese students as my reference. I also feel there's a certain amount of hypocrisy (sorry for my lack of articulation) with teaching in Asian countries that are dictatorships. My best personal experience was in an Eastern European country. But even then, it was ruined by a self-serving head and board. So I guess my answer is useless, in that it depends on your opportunities, personal make-up, and what you want.

Re: Spanish or French HS Diploma

Thanks for the response. I like the idea of no extra work. I contacted an American school, and they just sent me a form to enroll without answering my question. A warning sign right there.

I'm sure my son can do the DP no problem...but I am thinking he may like focusing on just 3/4 subjects.

Re: SA Bangkok Fair - Still worth it?

I wish I had the enthusiasm of others to go to schools in the ME, China or even Thailand. I just don't. After you subtract those locations there's really not much at the fairs.

Re: Spanish or French HS Diploma

Thank you for your response. It would be for a private school, most probably the DP. But does completing the DP get you a High School Diploma? Or would other credits have to be made up?

Spanish or French HS Diploma

In two years, I am thinking of retiring in either Spain or France. My child would have to finish the last two years of HS there. Probably IB. I am just wondering how would a HS Diploma be awarded? Would they factor in past report cards?

If the previous two years were not the IGSCE, would that exclude A-Levels as an option?

Would my child need to pass a French or Spanish language requirement?

Thanks

PGCE again sorry

What is the difference between these two programs?

@PSY Guy. If you read this. You once stated these could be used to get the HK RT, but don't you need to be a resident of HK for that?

What are the odds that parliament goes ahead with the iQTS = QTS legislation?

Does the AO route have to be done at a BSO?

Thanks in advance.

Re: (i)PGCE Revisited

Thanks. We may just take a year off and do it the old way in Canada. Then at least she's qualified to teach back home.

Re: (i)PGCE Revisited

Dear PSY,

With regards to: "Absent that do the MSc in Teacher Education from Oxford, its mostly DL except for a couple summer trips even though it costs three times the PGCEi programs, its going to have a lot more utility and value and will get you a more coin on an ISs salary scale."

Is there any online teaching degree that leads to certification or QTS? My wife just finished an undergraduate degree but has taught as a trailing spouse for several years and would like to teach but get paid more than a local salary.

I looked into TeachNow and it isn't accepted in our home country if we choose to return.

Thanks

Re: Any thoughts on the Search Fair coming up?

I am afraid you're right. Just got a rejection notice from one of my middle picks so most probably I wont even bother sending out an interview request. I don't need to be rejected by every school twice.

Any thoughts on the Search Fair coming up?

Slim pickings? Maybe recruiters have the same opinion? Just seems contrived to me. I have already applied to the attending schools that interest me so not expecting much but who knows.

Re: GRC

As a teacher, if I were to sign up with them, would that cut my relationship with Search?

I have built up some confidential references so I am hesitant to abandon them.

Re: GRC

Their school list appears quite extensive. If a school is on there does it mean they are no longer on Search?

Golf in the Middle East

Are there any countries in the ME where an IT could enjoy affordable golf? Trying to broaden my options and have always disavowed going there but perhaps this is a positive aspect of the ME? Just wondering.

Re: Can someone explain the Spanish tax scheme to me please.

Thanks for the response. Its the declaration of foreign assets that gets me. My savings are relatively small but I do have some dividends and for the Spanish government to tax them irks me. Anyways thanks for the detail. At least I can get a general idea of my pay now.
