When we did distance learning in the past we would send suggestions for practical activities to do at home - count and sort the cutlery, find squares and circles, use plasticine to make long and short snakes, could the X, Y Z etc
Also youtube links to stories with suggestions for follow up activities. Some craft suggestions

Re: Situation in China

Does anyone know the legalities, if any, of leaving now and not returning if the schools does reopen?
Or if the school is obliged to pay until end of contract even if they do not reopen?
What about expenses - short notice flights etc? Insurance?
I imagine people are racking up hotel bills having to stay out of the country on extended Chinese New Year holidays.

Not in China myself but wondering what happens in cases like this.

I do know of schools that closed because of political unrest and staff were told to leave, but were paid till the end of the school year (presumably because they could have been called back at any time).

When schools in Kuwait could not reopen after the summer, I heard of staff stranded with no job, no money.

Maybe it depends on the school.

schools or countries with no upper age limit?

Hi,
Thinking about the future. Which countries and/or schools do not have an upper age limit?
Thanks

Re: Need Assistance w/ Job Search and the Entire Process

Re Passport - Yes, get it. If you have a Portuguese, or any EU passport, you will not need a work permit/Visa. This saves money and bureaucracy for the school.

I would suggest writing directly to every International school in Portugal that you are interested in. What have you got to lose?

Re: Brexit Impact on European Job Market

May make it easier for Irish teachers to get EU positions - no visa requirements.

Re: Reference Questions

CIS send out their own reference forms, perhaps ISS does the same.

Re: Moving from China to Europe - advice???

Some Eastern European schools have good packages, and most that I know of start nursery at 3 years old. Try Budapest, Prague or Warsaw.
In Western Europe it will be harder to make ends meet and save.

Re: attending Northern Iowa recruiting fair question

As a 57 year old elementary teacher I attended a job fair in London in January, interviewed with 6 schools on 4 continents and was offered 6 jobs. No dependants but I don't know that that would have made a difference. It is true that you age out of many countries at 60, but your wife is not yet 60 so all is not lost! You need to plan on staying several years, possibly till retirement. After 60 it does get harder.

Re: Ageism in elementary?

It can happen, but experience is also valued. At 56 I attended a job fair, interviewed for 6 schools and was offered all 6 jobs.

After 60 it is harder but that is partly due to visa regulations. In some places you cannot get an initial visa after 60, but o de in you can extend it. In other es you are out at 60.

Skype interviews are becoming more and more common. Some schools won't, but many will.

Re: Teaching couple with three kids

Central or Eastern Europe may be a better option than Western Europe as housing is usually provided - or at least a housing allowance. My previous school used to give tuition for all children but recently capped it at 2 per couple. Check CEESA schools. Come before all schools introduce the cap.

Re: Best place in Europe if looking...

Eastern or Central Europe has better pay and conditions than Western Europe - usually. Eg Prague, Busapest, Bratislava. And meet the requirements of sunny blue skies even in Winter.

Re: Chances of teaching abroad...

An intern position varies according to the school.
You at get some classes to teach, you may be a general dogsbody, you may be a permanent sub, you may be an office assistant, you may assist with boarding duties.....

You will be paid a lot less than a teacher and may not get housing benefits, shipping etc

Check out what each school offers its interns.
