Re: Tier 1 Master List

I'd be interested to know your methodology in drawing up this list.

Re: Breaking contract for an offer you really want - issues?

"I do not like to go back on contracts or my word in general but life is short..." Gone seems to be the notion that one's word means much of anything with sentiments like that. Grab what you can now because you could be dead soon? And the advice proffered by fellow teachers is also ethically questionable. Lie because you don't have the guts to be honest?
Do you permit students the same sort of latitude?

Indonesia

Finally some good and sensible news out of Indonesia. Let's hope teachers wrongly accused of horrible crimes get out soon. So what does Psy Guy have to say now since he had so little faith in their innocence?

Fingerprint scans

I am curious to know how many of you have to scan a finger when signing in and signing out for a school day. We were told at a faculty meeting today that we would have to do so in the very near future. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
What's next? Random drug tests for teachers?

FDR Lima

Any recent information on FDR Lima? The posted reviews seem to have been written before new administration took over.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Washington International School

It really is a very good school. Teachers and students are more international and varied than in most schools outside the U.S. Plenty of academic freedom. On the down side, endless protocols for meetings is tedious at best. Biggest difficulty is living close to the school. Rents are outrageous. Some teachers commute 45 minutes to an hour, especially if they have kids and want a backyard. No housing assistance. Salaries are also not the best or near the top in comparison to similar schools in the area.

Re: Washington International School

Much depends on what section of the school interests you. Primary School is located in a different part of D.C.

Re: ACS Beirut?

lightstays should probably continue working at Popeye's if working for under 30 sounds so awful.
Does Popeye's pay your health insurance? Housing? Provide annual homeleave? I taught at ACS Beirut
for six years and found much to recommend, even with car bombings, war with Israel, and power
outages. Fantastic location, wonderful food, lovely people, fun students.
Next posting will be in the Americas. Net salary under 30 but my wife and I expect to save at least one salary.
Great kids, lovely housing, annual homeleave. I would much prefer to have less stress and more fulfillment
than big bucks, harassing parents, and idiotic administrators.

Re: What textbooks are most commonly being used at IBDP?

For several of the books, one can get a quick preview on Amazon. This might help you spot the texts that have serious deficiencies or those that would be appropriate for your students.

I have used Hodder's Access to History for the IB Diploma with great success. I also order 2-4 other texts (usually university level) as supplementary/complimentary works.
