Re: Best Job Fair to Land a Tier 1 School

Psyguy, "As I briefly discussed above, you seem to be one of those leadership that thinks your extremely limited HR experience (and recruiters and leadership tend to do HR very badly) allows you so profiler level insight into the quality of an IT." Wow, you have no idea who I am or my HR background ...

Re: Best Job Fair to Land a Tier 1 School

Psyguy, The point is I want to get to know them better before I hire them. I want to know if they are the teachers I want working with our students and be a part of our community. At a fair, I can see them in a variety of settings including interviews, conversations during the day, the reception at ...

Re: Reapplying at a school I previously turned down

I would contact the principal and say just what you said to us. If they were willing to hire you before, they should be equally interested now plus you have more experience. The one point you will need to address is given your previous concern with salary, how long do you plan to stay? If most of th...

Re: Best Job Fair to Land a Tier 1 School

As a recruiter, about half of our hires are by Skype or Zoom and about half are done at fairs. I attend fairs so I can meet teachers face to face. I get to know people better meeting them in person, and I hope they get to know me better, than I ever will via Skype. Most experienced teachers who work...

Re: School social worker looking for an IS position

This year, my school hired an experienced social worker to be our elementary counselor and we are very pleased with her work. It is definitely possible, but the four dependents could be an issue at many schools. I would encourage you to create a file with one of the major placement firms and see wha...

Re: Shanghai IS with Diverse Student Population

Shanghai American - Puxi campus is largely Asian students. The Pudong Campus is a bit more diverse, but still predominantly Asian.

Concordia is probably the most diverse, but does have the religious aspect.

Dulwich College is a British program is probably second most diverse.

Blinky, As a recruiter with access to salary information of many other schools, my sense is the established "Tier 1" schools have made modest salary increases over the past few years. There continues to be growth from for profit schools, which is many, but not all, cases offer the lowest salaries th...

Re: Teach Away

I have used them as a recruiter. They are a legitimate company. They connect teachers and schools for Skype interviews although they partnered with ISS this year in two recruiting fairs. Their model to is screen candidates and then refer candidates to schools. While they have expanded to more tradit...

Re: International v/s Local Hire

Zenteach, I am proud to be one of the contributors who feels strongly about PsyGuy advocating fraud. As a recruiter, if I find out someone lied to me, including lies of omission, in the interview process they are immediately removed from consideration. It sounds like this is a location that you real...

Artsmg,

Follow up with the other contacts. You are presuming they are bad, but maybe not. If nothing else you will get different perspectives.

Z,

Take the job. The experience is invaluable and will set you apart. When you go for your next admin position, having had experience will put you ahead of teachers from tier 1and 2 schools who want to break into admin.

Re: Masters Degree That Is Worth Time/Money?

Skybluesky, I would recommend a Masters if the major is something you are truly interested in pursuing. Schools generally prefer teachers with Masters who can articulate how it has helped them become a better teacher. In terms of the money, the return on investment is between 5 and 7 years. Most sch...

Re: Updates from Bangkok

Just came back from Bangkok as a recruiter. There was 560 candidates and 120 schools. The Search folks said this was consistent with the past. Contracts were being offered. Search London is a week earlier this year, some recruiters were going straight to London from Bangkok, which may impact it but ...

Re: 20 years teaching in Independent school-Search salary pr

Splendid,

It is possible with some schools, but few, if any, of the top schools will exceed their maximum entry step. It would be too controversial with existing staff who came in on that step. The max entry step varies from school to school, from 5 up to 16 or so.

Re: Recruitment Season

Prime time depends upon the position. The top tier schools in Asia are well into their hiring for hard to fill positions. Most of them will be done by early January, then often finish up at the Bangkok fairs. The 2nd tier schools are on a more traditional schedule, January and February. Given the Eu...
