Re: Has anyone suspected that a boss or colleague lied about

Update:
Turns out he was a supply teacher for primary. Never was an administrator nor does he hold an advanced degree.

I cannot give more details as it would violate forum’s policy. Got this information from reliable sources back in the United Kingdom.

Has anyone suspected that a boss or colleague lied about cre

I am noticing something fishy about my principal. I did not really think about it until now, but his story changes a lot about how he got qualified. The last one was a big fib as he told he got x degree at y university. I checked if the school offers the degree, and it doesn’t. Plus, many other inconsistencies. He is bully and has made
My life miserable as well.
Has anyone ever experienced a situation like mine?

Invitation Letter wait time

I was offered a job five weeks ago from IS school in Russia and submitted the necessary information for the invitation letter. It has been five weeks now.

The person who hired me told me it takes no more that twenty days, but I have a feeling he is just guessing. First he told me no more than 15 days, four weeks ago and now it is twenty days at most. He implied that he sent the paperwork two weeks ago, but I am not so sure this is true.

Has anyone experienced a long wait time for paperwork?

Finally I my answer yesterday from the the VP! Enrollment and monetary issues. The VP also was not renewed and three other teachers. The ones who got renewal got a salary cut.

I would like to thank everyone for all the help.

Re: Blindsided

I want to thank everyone for their input. It always reassuring to know that I can get support here on ISR.

There are a few other teachers at my school who are in same situation. What I find astounding was I got sacked via email. I got positive feedback recently and I have all the papers to prove it. The same is for the other teachers. One teacher has since left. She did a dramatic move and pulled a runner.

At this juncture, I am more concerned about them fulfilling my current contract and finding a job for next year. I am bit nervous though because I find it hard to trust employer when I get great appraisals, good feedback from students and parents. Perhaps it is the enrollment. We lost half of our student enrollment this year due to parents leaving the country. (huge scandal with local government). And I am the highest paid. (Mostly because of my nationality. I get more than the VP!)

Again, thanks for all the input.

Blindsided

I just received an email from my school's director that my contract will not be renewed. No verbal contact. No warnings. Not even a follow-up afterwards.

I saw no signs at all. My appraisals went well and this year I was even promoted. In fact, the VP told me that I was one of more reliable people. I get along with colleagues and students as well.

A few others at my school got the sack via email as well.

Has anyone ever seen or experienced my situation?

Re: When is time to leave IT.

I would like to thank everyone for the thoughtful comments. I am going through a very difficult time and this forum makes me feel less vulnerable. I am grown women, but I have to say no matter how long I have been abroad, it is difficult to be in a situation where there is no sounding board around. I am so grateful to have this forum.

I am considering some of the advice written by other posters.

Thanks again. It means a great deal for me.

When is time to leave IT.

I have been teaching abroad for well over a decade. After a lot of consideration, I want to leave. Teaching abroad has many ups and downs. Personally, I have experienced many downs. I started a new contract and things have turned for the worst. They promised health insurance but they are telling me that they cannot afford health insurance. They do not have a computer for me so I have to bring my own. ( That is a long story)

I think the biggest reason for wanting to leave is for-profit schools. Last week, I was called into the VP office because my marks were to low. I had to changed all the low grades to very high grades. I am getting emails from one parent who got very angry because I gave her daughter a 95 instead of 100. Some of her emails are sent 3:00 AM in morning. If you do not respond straight away, she will call on it.

All in all, I am tired of these for-profit schools. There are too many. Sadly, I did leave a good job a few years back. The schools was IB and took good care of me. I left because the pollution got to me. It was really the only school that was not so profit driven.

Has anyone left international teaching? I would love to hear some feedback. I am overwhelmed but I need get out.

Thanks in advance.

Request from a school that I did not apply

I got an email the other day from a well know school in the UAE that they have reviewed my CV and would like to set up an interview. I never sent my CV there and I am not really in the market for a new job. Has this happened to anyone here?

What would you do if local currency makes a steep decline

I am willing to accept that I have to take 600 USD less a month due to recent upswing in the US economy. While I agreed to accept the amount offered to me I local currency, is there any circumstances that one should speak out. Losing 600 USD a month is a lot.

Re: Paedophile taught at ECA Caracas and Southbank

I find it astounding that he was able to get jobs in some of his postings. I know for a fact that Aramco, for example, does a very thorough background check. And what about his teaching qualification?! It looks like it was issued 42 years ago! I am sure he was not up-to date in that department.

On egg shells

I have a friend who I worked with in Malaysia and she just informed me that she has been blacklisted. As far as I know, she was one of the most revered employees at our school. To date, I know I have not been blacklisted but I am confused that one can blacklist someone for no reason now.

Is there anything that I should be aware of if I plan to go back to Malaysia?

Has anyone ever had a very bad interview?

I had an interview recently where the principal got angry when I told her my current salary. Her response was that at her school it would be a lot less and why on Earth would any school pay me that much. She then asked me what other perks I have and I told her private health insurance and housing. She responded with a very loud scream, and continued a diatribe that no school in world offers such a package and that she did not like speaking to liars. She hung up on me. The interview, of course, finished.

It was a very discouraging interview, to say the least.

I have not been updated from HR because I decided to take another job that was my first choice from start ( The other finally gave me an offer)

I wrote HR on Tuesday and told them I was not coming. I did mention that it was a difficult decision as I put a lot of energy getting my certificates and diplomas authenticated through various channels at many levels from local to the federal government to Qatari Embassy. My breaking point was that I HR did not return my email.

They did get back with me with a new pre-booked ticket just as I sent them the email that I am withdrawing from the process.

I am not suggesting that you withdraw, it was a difficult decision and I did feel bad about leaving them with one less teacher in KS1.

I think it is sort of out of HR control though, so I am not resenting them but a matter of clear communications.
