Overall, this is the best school in Jeddah.
There are many positive things to say about the school. However,
Saudi Arabia is not for everyone, so have a look at country profiles on the BBC and similar websites. The new managers are decent people but suffer from 'let's call a meeting syndrome.' They sometimes forget that spending the day with 100 students is not the same as working behind a desk. This is not to belittle that work, which is vital for the school also.
Some veterans have found it difficult to adjust to recent changes as there were almost no meetings under the ancien regime. People who had been here for years, even decades got a shock when the new brooms arrived with Ofsted inspired strategic plans. Expectations are high but in fairness, the workload is now simply comparable to other British Schools in the region.
Students are generally nice, salaries are paid on time and housing is good both within the campus and off-campus.

very interested in appying to this school, this year or perhaps 2009, however IB candidate schools jump through lots of hoops to achieve accreditation and best practice, when will this process be completed?
accepting that Laos has a low cost of living, can one save on the salary here and if one is divorced/single what is the accomodation on offer?
Laos is a developing country and I wonder is there a good internet provider there with a fast connection as I am doing an MA online?
sorry to have so many questions and appreciate your help.

after school meetings versus work life balance IB Schools
anyone recommend IB schools where meetings schedule is sensible and the focus is on classroom teaching and learning? Is it true that many or most 'good' schools expect to see teachers come in to do marking and admin and insets on the weekend? I prefer to do my marking and prep at home and I struggle with my MA modules because the schoolday is extended by meetings. I love the classroom but the meetings could be handled by email. Ironically, I am spending less time with my students clubs (which I DO enjoy) to attend metings on the Development Plan, which I see as the managers job.
