Using PayPal from Pakistan or North Korea

Does anyone have experience using PayPal from Pakistan or North Korea. Here is the scenario: you have a US based PayPal account and want to make a purchase in the US. Can you log into your US based PayPal account and make the purchase and have that purchase sent to a US address. PayPal is not available in Pakistan or North Korea but does this mean you can't use your US based account, even with a VPN. Thanks in advance.

Re: Search Associates - white people only?

Maybe you forget to tell Search you had a teaching credential and years of experience in K-12 education just like you did here? I'm thinking you have an attitude. And like the previous poster just said, maybe one of your confidential references told it like it is. Unfortunately, parents in some parts of the world feel they are paying for a White, English speaker to teach their kids. There are plenty of reviews on this site where teachers talk about the discrimination they suffered and the hands of students who saw them as just another servant. Hell, many of them treat White teachers that way. It's sad but true.

Re: Search Associates - white people only?

The requirement for teaching through Search is a teaching credential and at least two years teaching in grades k through 12. It appears you lack the qualifications to be hired. Your degrees and background hold no weight in the International School arena. That's just the way it is. Good luck. Discrimination is most certainly alive and well in International Schools. At Search? I doubt it. You just simply lack the qualifications. Good luck in your job search.

Re: Which cities in Africa are pleasant to live in?

I lived in Kinshasa in the DR Conga. I would not recommend it. The level of poverty was hard to take. Additionally, everything was very expensive because it all had to be imported. From a bag of rice to a mediocre hamburger in a "restaurant," everything was easily triple the price in the States. I don't know what it is like there today but I can't imagine it has improved much

Recruiting experience with Collegiate British In'l Sch. UAE

Does an one have any experience recruiting with Collegiate British International School in the UAE? http://cbisfujairahuae.com/index.html?p=1

I'm starting to get suspicious about these people and wonder if anyone has recruited to work at this school? They claim to be part of the Al-Futtaim Group, but when I search for this information I can't find anything to this effect. Also, their web site looks very much like Deira International School, also in Dubai. http://www.disdubai.ae/page.cfm?p=1 Deira is part of the Al-Futtaim Group.

Maybe it's just me, but something doesn't seem right here.

Any information would be great. Thanks in advance.

Re: Teachers Latin America

Well, Guy, I have been following this conversation and I have to agree with many of the things PsyGuy has said. If in fact you really support and look after the teachers you place and you don't support schools that don't honor contracts...prove it!

Here is a link to the International Teachers' Bill of Rights. Put a link on your web site to the Bill of Rights and announce that you support the International Teachers Bill of Rights. Then come back to this site and tell us where the link is. Put your actions where you mouth is and then I'll believe you. Until then, I consider you just another recruiter saying what ever you need to say to earn a commission. Talk is cheap. Someplace on you home page would make a statement.

I'll be waiting to see what you do as I am sure the other teachers participating in this thread.

Re: Music

Hi Katie117. I taught music in six different international schools over a period of 18 years. Music teachers are in demand. Many countries require that expat teachers have degrees in the subject they teach, otherwise they stipulate the schools should hire a local. My wife was an elementary teacher. We got each of our jobs because the schools needed a music teacher and one with a teaching credential and a music degree. You will do just fine.

By the way, I too am a percussionist but with a degree in Composition. At all of my schools the director purchased sets of conga drums, bongos, marimbas, etc. You will be surprised at the emphasis on music in International Schools. Performances are the key to success. They are well attended and in a way they are a highly visible representation of the quality of education at the school. Bring photos of performances to your interview.

Best of luck

I have done the same with PsyGuy. I have blocked him along with a couple of others on here. Don't leave, Block! It makes the forum a great place to share ideas.

Well put! You have hit the nail on the head!!! I find it deplorable that teachers should want to silence a poster. This sounds like the school I work for that goes on witch hunts every time another well-deserved, lousy review of them appears on ISR.

Re: Skype interviews and safety in Caracas

I agree with overseas life. I have used AASSA twice to secure a job in Latin America. It's really the recruiter to use if you want to go to Latin America. Why the hell would I fly to Thailand looking for a job in South America when I can attend AASSA for a lot less money and find schools in the region I am looking to teach in. Dump Fair? What's that all about?

Sounds bogus to me, especially since there is no agreed upon scale. I would be wary of such a school.

Re: Pakistan

I lived there for two years prior two 911. I loved it. The people, the food, the weather, travel opportunities. It may have changed and I'm sure it has as has the rest of the world. I found that the News made Pakistan look unsafe for Westerners when I lived there. Maybe it was? We traveled all over the country and never a problem. A lot depends on where you will be. What city is the school in. Karachi is a world different than Lahore.

Re: admin paranoid about ISR reviews

I think ChinaMan hit it on the head. You promised not to defame your school on the internet. But....and this is a big but...you didn't promise not to speak the truth about your school. There are some schools out there that abuse teachers no end and then expect as a "professional" you'll just take it and stay quiet. I think you have a responsibility to colleagues to share what is going on on ISR and other web sites.

US law says that you can't be sued for telling the truth. In fact there are laws to protect people who tell the truth from being sued. Now...if you make up stuff to enforce your point or position you may well be sued and frankly, you would deserve. I worked at a school where the director got an ISR membership and passed out the log in to all of us -- I'm sure ISR loves hearing that. Anyway, he invited us all to post a review and be honest. Once he had read them all we had a staff meeting and discussed the complaints. As we corrected these areas over the months ahead we were encouraged to post again. It was a good system and kept everyone anonymous but got things done.

Re: saying no nicely to a contract signed?

The chances of being discovered and finding yourself without a job at all are high. I agree with the above posts...it's a small world when it comes to international schools and word gets around. You wouldn't think it possible but it does.

Re: Teaching in the UK

Are you sure all the kids don't want anything to do with education? I worked in the UK and had some lovely students who worked hard. I had some bad ones, too. My head was nothing like you are describing. Where were you in the UK?
