Re: 32K - Average Salary for International Teachers?

Search Associates did some research on this. Guessing it is based on their network of schools which perhaps might not include some of the lower tier schools.
I would say the initial figure posted of 32k might not be too far off.

2019 Data

Average Base Salary: BA+4 years

North America - $53,800
SE/East Asia - $45,800
Europe - $45,700
Middle East - $39,000
South/Central Asia - $37,600
South America - $35,800
Africa - $35,700
Central America/Caribbean - $31,700

ALL - $41,700

NOTE: Salary is pre-tax and does not include the value of any other allowance/benefits

Average Base Salary: MA+8 years

Upped the figures by 5-9,000. I wasn't bothered to cut and paste these results :-)

Re: Outward Facing / Progressive Schools

Initiative for the school

Basically schools that have a reputation for being progressive and forward thinking - strong programmes, welcoming environment, innovative teaching and learning, innovative use of IT

Thanks

Outward Facing / Progressive Schools

Dear All,

I work at a large 'Tier 1' (don't like this term) school in Europe and an outsider looking in would see the school as a really good place to work - money, PD opportunities, supportive admin etc. However, the school has a reputation for being 'inward facing' and not particularly innovative. The aim is to start building connections with progressive schools around the world.

Does the community have any views / recommendations / experience of progressive schools? I believe this post is acceptable for the forum as I am keen to solicit general views rather than 'evaluation type comments'.

Many thanks for you time and support.

Help Needed - PYP Question

Can anyone help me with the following:

If the PYP is taught in transdisciplinary themes why the need for 6 distinct units? As the units are transdisciplinary anyway, the whole concept seems illogical.

Does anyone know / work in schools that complete 5 units (instead of the 6)? Im sure their are some - how does this work? Could you somehow let me know schools that complete 5?

Some background research if you are interested:
The PYP can be regarded as a shelf curriculum. A shelf curriculum (Bagnall, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015; Cambridge & Thompson, 2004; Hayden & Thompson, 2000), it provides a curriculum framework but not the content. It is more concerned with the method of teaching than the content.
The IB offers a sample programme of example science inquiry but does not insist that it is mandatory for schools. In fact the IB acknowledges “Some schools may need to reflect national, regional or local requirements within the units of inquiry that are developed and included in their programme of inquiry” (IB, 2008, p. 2).

Would there be implications in completing 5?

Thanks for your help and support

Re: M.Ed or MBA?

Hi, in the UK there are such courses including Education MBA which may be worth looking into.

I have completed my M.Ed and am working towards my MBA with the thought of admin in the future. Good luck whichever you choose.

Re: Two Offers: What would you do?

Standard of Living vs Quality of Life
Having done both I would take number 2.
Long term effects of pollution would seal the deal.
Good luck whichever you choose :-)

Re: Budapest or Zagreb

I looked at both last year and the pay in Zagreb is very low in comparison to the cost of living.

Re: Best fair for top European Schools?

Most of the big schools were in Bangkok
Zurich
Lausanne
Vienna
Luxembourg
Couple of the German schools
Istanbul

There were a few jobs posted by each but competitive :-)

Probably the above list in part answers your additional question

Thanks for your responses. I have a fair amount of IB training and experience however, the low pay is probably a stumbling point.

Does anyone know where the top entry scale amount is? $40000, $45000, $50000?

Thanks again

Laos v Myanmar

I'm looking at a move to SE Asia particularly Laos, Myanmar or perhaps Manilia.
I would very thankful for any information regarding the following:
- Laos VIS saving potential, I can't find any information of salary and benefits.
- Myanmar which is the best school? I know rents and electricity are going through the roof. Is it possible to save?

Or any schools in the area with over $1000 a month realistic savings potential. Single, top of scale
Eastern Seaboard Thailand?

Thanks do much
