Re: Is it worth going to a Fair if you recently accepted a p

Thanks for giving us the update. I was worried that you may have not gotten the offers, plus forfeited the convenient job fair in your hometown, resulting in no jobs at all. Glad that it all worked out in the end for you.

Re: The American International School of Muscat

Great school. There's early childhood classroom for toddlers, as well as inexpensive English speaking nannies from the Philippines to help out with child care. Cost of living very reasonable. Easy to save half a salary here.

I'd start learning about the culture, etiquette and customs of the country asap. Plus start taking a Vietnamese language course; a 6 month jump on language can make a huge difference in your settling-in when you arrive.

Witness: I wouldn't pay out of pocket for the IB course, I'd wait and get it part of the deal of signing with my next school. Schools have PD funds for this kind of thing, and I doubt they wouldn't hire you just to save money on an IB course. Basically I think if the school wants to hire someone without IB experience, they're usually willing to pay to send that teacher on the IB course - it's part of the package. Good luck with your job search next year.

Who wants to marry me?

After reading the reviews of the job fairs so far, one thing is clear: teaching couples are more sought after than single teachers. And just to save the rent of one extra apartment, can you imagine?! Forget the whole "best candidate for the job" business, this is money we're talking about! Which leads me to my next question: who wants to marry me?

Oh sure, sounds like a joke, but just think what a power couple we would be at the job fairs next time, what with my M.A and 14 years teaching experience, and your *fill-in-the-blank*!

Any and all male applications will be accepted; only successful candidates will be notified. Strong possibility of Skype interviews with webcam.

Tie-Online too

I was ready to go to a job fair this year, but thankfully landed a job thanks to putting my CV on Tie Online and having two Skype-interviews with my new school.
I think if more and more candidates contacted schools directly, requesting Skype interviews, we could do away with expensive, time-consuming job fairs for good.
