Be warned that the Gulf English School in Doha, Qatar is a miserable place to be a teacher. The owners and management should not be involved in education. The turn over rate of teachers is unbelievable. If you find yourself in Doha, look for another school. Above all else, do not take the sponsorship of the school!

Yes, I am in Doha and have heard bad things about this school. Having said that, the one where I am currently teaching is much the same!

THIS "SCHOOL" IS PERHAPS THE WORST SCHOOL I HAVE OBSERVED. THIS YEAR, THE NEW DIRECTOR RESIGNED AS HIS INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM COULD NOT BE COMPROMISED IN THIS INSTITUTION.
THIS SCHOOL MUST BE ONE OF THE TOP WORST ARAB OWNED PRIVATE SCHOOLS. IF YOU THOUGHT THINGS COULD NOT GET WORSE LAST YEAR AT GES, THEY HAVE![/b]

Beware of schools in Doha which are not sponsored by a large company or an embassy. There have been great professional teachers in many of the other schools who have been undermined, bullied and prevented from using their skills in other schools. Owners make the right noises at interview but the truth is often different when you arrive! Find out as much as possible from current and previous teachers before taking a job here.

The management of this school is abysmal. There is no educational integrity from the school owners or school management. The "leadership" of this school is quite willing to do anything to keep their positions and collect their Rials.

The management of this school revolves around the rugby club crowd, who leave much to be desired. These people rule the school and are allowed to get away with anything. This school is a joke! Stay away from it! Teachers are exploited and mistreated and this will never change. RUN!

The school has been through a few changes recently but standards do seem to be rising. 95% of the children have English as a second language and teachers with some EAL background woulld enjoy the challenge. The school did offer a full time EAL trainer, but this was a waste of time as the training was pisspoor.

The owners seem to appreciate loyalty and hard work but are very firm when it comes to staff who are not prepared to put the kids first. Management is fair and the school is a good place to work in.

A new Secondary Head is making a very big difference to the place and the Head of Primary is established and well respected.

Doha is very safe and there is a strong underying Muslim ethos. Western teachers are very welcome and respected. The weather is excellent if you like the heat!
