Typical salary range in Malaysia

Hi again,

This may sound a bit vague, but I was wondering if someone is familiar with the pay scale across various cities in Malaysia as a teacher. I'm not picking out a particular city and I've already been to Malaysia a few times, so I'm aware of the cost of living. I would just like to know what is considered below average, average, and above average. Thanks a lot.

These are not my figures but a few years ago on another forum the range was touted to be around 12-30k RM a month with many good schools paying between 16-20k and the top school(s) paying around 30k. The opinion was that anyone taking less than 12k would suffer badly as single (or a couple with 2 kids 18k). Outside of KL it was said that you could knock a few thousand off what was generally said to be needed.

Now, I know there has been fluctuation in the currency but I haven't really kept up with it so you'd have to factor in those changes to these numbers. Hopefully someone with more recent/first hand knowledge will pop by.
