Re: New to The Game...

And let’s remember the original point of this thread. The OP is looking to build a career, expand options and work at better schools. The path to that is decidedly not 2-2-2-2.

Re: New to The Game...

Readers will have to make up their own minds about who is right and who is a sociopath.
On one side we have a collection of experienced school leaders and recruiters, all saying the same thing.
On the other side, a sole experienced teacher, someone with a long and loud history of recommending that people lie and cheat for their own advantage.

Re: Affordable Housing Prices

Most cities in the “other” Europe, including EU member states. The Baltics, the Stans…. Most of Latin America. Much of Africa. Many cities in Asia.
Leave out North America and the most popular EU cities, and you’re still looking at most of the world.

Re: Getting a U.S. teaching License with Masters in Education (ESOL)

As with the other respondents, I don’t know of a route without exams. But I will say the exams are fairly pathetic. The bar is set very low. You shouldn’t have any trouble passing if you pay any sort of attention in your courses.

Re: Policies on Friending Students

Former students, now adults, finished with high school, sure. Have fun. Responsibly. Even better if you are no longer in the same school/country as where you knew them. Only friend the ones you truly trust and enjoy as people.
I have some former students who turned into legitimate friends.

Indeed. Cast a wide net, be open to schools and countries that weren’t on your radar, and there is probably something out there for you.
Good luck.

More than that. It’s highly competitive. There will be dozens of qualified, experienced candidates for any decent job. Be prepared to promote yourself.

Re: Should I get Vaccinated?

It’s been discussed here before, so I’ll summarize. My own stance is very much pro-vaccine, but that’s irrelevant to your questions. You want to know about the intersection of vaccination status and employment. The short version is that being unvaccinated will greatly diminish your prospects. You cannot work in schools in many countries, my own host country included, unless you are vaccinated. (There may be room legally for legitimate medical exemptions, but probably most schools won’t want to take the chance of exploring this route and hoping for the best.)
You also cannot enter many countries unless you are vaccinated.
You might also find you need to get more than one vaccine. China will probably require one of theirs, but getting back home or to other countries will require different WHO approved vaccines.
Staying home, wherever that is, might not help since many countries are considering vaccine mandates for educators; some already have them.
It might be easier to leave education than to continue without vaccination.
I’m sorry if it’s not what you want to hear, but it is the current reality.

Re: Should I get Vaccinated?

We need more context to provide real answers.
If you’re asking whether it is a useful vaccine, yes, it’s better than not being vaccinated, but not as great as other Covid vaccines. If it’s your only option, get it. If you have better options, do that. Or do both. Evidence so far suggests that mixing and matching vaccines produces even better results than a single source.
If you’re asking whether it is safe, yes it is.

Re: Pending License

Apply now and be clear that your license is pending. Put “(expected February 2022)” next to it in your CV. Explain in your personal statement or cover letter. And expect that any offer will be contingent on the state granting your license. I’d be happy to hire someone in your position (everything else matching, of course), but my country wouldn’t give you a visa if you didn’t receive the license.
Good luck.

Re: Harvard's CSML

You’re right. It does take luck. There are always more people who want leadership positions than there are available leadership positions. It’s hard getting one, especially that first one, and the process can feel brutal. Love and support to everyone going through this.
As for connections, there can be some luck there too, but quite a bit of that you can control or at least influence. Build a network. Maintain it over the long term. We all meet people. Do you build bonds, make connections, reach out regularly, and not just when you’re hoping someone can help you? There’s a huge difference you can make for yourself and have your connections in place when your moment arises.

Re: Harvard's CSML

So many times I’ve seen variations on the theme of “I earned my credential, I told my principal, now I’ll sit in my classroom and wait for my new position to be delivered to me”. I saw a new variant just the other day in a Facebook leadership group: the poster had decided to go into leadership, was considering earning a credential, and wanted to know whether to take a position in another school or just tell her current school to create a new position for her, specific to what she wanted to do. Oh my.
Moral of the story: nobody is handing out leadership positions. Wait for it to come to you, and you’ll wait forever. Start leading, contributing, taking initiative. The job goes to the person who was already doing it before it was open.
Credentials can help. Action speaks louder.

Re: Harvard's CSML

I worked with a teacher who had one and who spoke highly of the program. Based on our conversations, he had learned a lot that would be useful in leadership.
We both moved on to other schools and lost touch. I never heard any reports of him landing a leadership post.
