Re: Career advice - teaching Geography in Europe?

Schools in London are really struggling to recruit Geography teachers. If London is an option, you would be able to find a job in a heart beat. But teaching in London is not for everyone, especially after working abroad with motivated and pleasant children.

Re: Prem Tinsulanonda, Thailand

Regarding taxes in Thailand at 4%, either I just got the best news in weeks, or I am afraid this is just not right...before accepting my first IT job in Thailand, I did quite a bit of research on taxes. There is a tax scale with bands which go up as high as 30% taxes. I would think anybody working at a decent IT in Thailand would hit the 30% threshold. This does not mean you'll pay 30% taxes on all your earnings but only the amount over that Threshold. Just google 'taxes in Thailand' and you'll find all the relevant info. Bear in mind that accomodation is also considered a 'benefit in kind' and hence taxable.
Please make my day, prove me wrong and tell me that taxes in Thailand are only 4%...

Re: First IT post and child with medical problem

Thank you for all your comments. It really helped me to put my mind at rest. My daughter is already facing some 'social exclusion' due to her medical problem in the UK. Children can sometimes be very cruel...let's hope that they new climate and lifestyle will make her condition improve. We know for sure that the UK cold weather is an absolute killer for her.

Re: Jobs for non-native English speaking teachers?

I totally agree with previous posts, It depends on the school. The truly international schools would not look at your wife's nationality, but her qualifications and teaching experience.
I am a non-native English speaker (I do not teach languages) and I have received offers from several reputable international schools, many of them with the term 'British' in their names. But I think that it ultimately depends on which subject you teach and which country you want to teach in. For example, well qualified physics teachers can be picky and in my experience, China is an easy country to get a job in regardless of your nationality.

First IT post and child with medical problem

Hi,
I have been offered my first IT post starting in August. My 8 year old daughter suffers from ezcema. At times it is barely noticeable but sometimes it looks pretty awful, especially on her hands and face.
The state schools she has attended in the UK have always been incredibly supportive and understanding. Knowing that international schools have a much more bussiness aproach to things, I am a little bit concerned that the school might, at some point, ask us to not take her to school because some paying parents raise concerns about the way she looks.
I have discussed the matter with many people and they all think I am being ridicolous: eczema is not contagious and banning a child from attending school because of a 'red face' would simply be cruel. I agree, but what do the directors of international schools think? Any advice or first hand experience would be highly appreciated.
By the way, we have visited this country in the past and her eczema magicaly went away. We are under no illusion that this will be the case but we can certainly dream!

I do not hold a British passport but my teacher training and all my teaching experience has been in the UK.

I will let you know how it goes

British International School Hanoi

This is a new school that opened in 2012. I know does belong to the same group of schools as BIS HCMC and their Vietnamese versions. Do you work/have worked/know somebody who works at this school? Any reviews?
Many thanks

Shrewsbury International School reviews?

All the reviews on SIS are quite old, and I was wondering if anybody could give me their opinion on this school? I am interviewing next week for a job there.
Many thanks in advance
